I haven't done a lot of comparison, but both our game and the Bama game were 3 /12 hours long.

I noticed when switching around during commercial breaks like I usually do, it was hard at times to find a game NOT in a commercial break. I had 4 games up on multicast and it was not infrequent for all four games to be in commercial break.

The Tennessee game was also 3 1/2 hours long.

PSU game was 3 1/2 hours long.

Colorado's game was 3 1/2 hours long.

Per this article, the average game length in 2022 was 3 hours 21 minutes. Are games actually LONGER now?

The CFB fan got fleeced. They needed to speed the game up to have more room for advertising.

Indeed. And, it appears that not only have they added commercials to take up the time that was gained from not stopping the clock, they've added even more commercials to make the games even longer.

But we'll be told games are shorter and that it's good for the game. Sad thing is, you can't count on the commentators and pundits to speak the truth b/c they won't go up against the media.

Just have to keep hoping guys like Kelly and Kiffin keep it up and that other coaches join in.

Isn't that the normal operating procedure - nothing is done ''for the fan's benefit''

All we heard was "this is gonna be good for the game." Other than making it more like the NFL, nobody could say HOW it was better for the game.

Well yeah. But the story was that they needed to speed up the games b/c we were getting too much football and it was too much to sit through. They were going to save us from that.

When fans stop going to games because they are misery to sit through because of all the tv timeouts (it is pretty close to that now) and when people stop watching the games live so they can DVR them and FF through the commercials is when things will change and not before then.

Sounds like the same kind of story your government is selling on a daily basis.

Pro tip for the NCAA: don't tell us you changed the clock rules to shorten the game when we can actually use a clock and see how long the games are.

Ditto for the government - but as a rule, once a change is made it never reverts back. Hopefully the NCAA will realize the mistake and fix it.

Exhibit A: airlines charging for bags...only until fuel prices drop.

I noticed Saturday night that even stoppages for minor injuries where the player was off the field in a minute or slightly longer were extended several times by 2:30 TV timeouts.

Yep, good point. I noticed that in various games also. There were several very long injury timeouts.

The NCAA stated they would use 2023 to "gather data" to be analyzed at the end of the year to determine
impacts of the rule change. I don't trust them to do anything. Not for the fans anyway.

I think we'll see that televised games are as long or longer, but it serves the purpose of the TV providers to put up more commercials and the NCAA will declare it a success and keep it.

I've become cynical with these things.

Yes, they will find some way to spin it. Even if the broadcasts aren't shorter. They'll say the clock change resulted in fewer snaps which correlated to decreased player injuries or sometthing.
