I honestly don't understand the obsession that some have for how teams in the ACC performing, and this goes across all sports
I don't consider myself to be obsessed but the reason I keep up with it in football is because, I want the perception that the ACC is so pathetically weak that the rest of the country will talk about it....

The more that it is talked about nationally, the harder it is for the media to slobber all over the ACC, year in and year out..... desperately trying to prop up what amounts to flag football, Jr. High level football....... to the point that even the media starts harping on it every single Saturday, and during the offseason...... so that.....

It starts to trickle down over the years to influence the kids - (future recruits) - so that, they won't even consider playing in that conference for any team - but especially Clemmons. Bad press eventually has to hurt Clemmons, and that's why I keep track of it. For me, it's an accumulation thing.

Eventually, it will reach a breaking point - hopefully - where the media cannot ignore it any longer, and can not sweep it under the rug.

Those of us who are from and/or live in NC have lived with the arrogance and condescension of the Tarholes and their like. Also, there are those who think the Gamecocks should have been part of the playoffs because of their strength of schedule compared to the ACC champ and runner up.

So Cam Ward played in the first half of Miami's bowl game against Iowa St so he could break an NCAA passing record. He sat out the second half because he's considered a top pick in the NFL draft. Then his team ends up losing in the end by a point. Me, myself and I.

Well said! That's exactly why I don't pull for any of them, it's the recruiting! We'll get a handful of decent players from Georgia, but the ones Georgia doesn't get wind up at a Florida or Alabama school! We should own South Carolina now, since Clemson has decided to go national and that leaves North Carolina, our best teams have had some really good players from North Carolina and it's a must to recruit there, especially the Charlotte area. There are no SEC teams in NC and they don't care about football like we do, it's a no brainer that we should out-recruit any other school for NC players and even compete with the four North Carolina schools for the top talent every year! And that's another reason they hate us!

Hi buddy, how have you been doing?
Doing well, Freddie. I shot a cow elk in the rifle season and a nice whitetail buck during the archery season, so when you factor in the Gamecocks' strong football season, I had a pretty good fall. How'd you fare with the storm in NC?

I don’t post on FGF much anymore. However, the acc is 1-9 in post season 2024 football. SMU and CU, to a certain degree, showed by their performances last weekend, that their inclusion in the CFP, was suspect, at best.

South Carolina went into the eventual acc champions stadium and beat them. Supposedly head to head was a “data point”? Evidently only when it was convenient for the politics and backslapping of the CFP selection committee. South Carolina had four top 25 wins in November alone, two on the road. Also, finished on a six game winning streak. Very few teams in the country were on a hot streak like those two facts.

SOS evidently wasn’t a “data point”, because USC’s was top 15 in 2024. A trip to the Citrus Bowl and $8.5 Million dollar payout per team isn’t chopped liver, and we can live with that. I just don’t understand what criteria go into what constitutes getting a top 12 (CFP) poll position??? It’s some muddy, convoluted 💩.

The precedent was set years ago, however. Debo introduced it to us. Ethics and allegiance have gone out the window on this. I've been to several bowls, but why would I spend what it takes and put up with the inconvenience to go to a bowl now when something like this is liable to happen?
Since I live so far away, I don't get to games anymore. I asked my college buddies if we should try to rally for the bowl this year. Their unanimous reply was, "why would we spend that kind of money to watch what amounts to a scrimmage."

That's a dumb rationale. By that rationale you shouldn't even tune in to the games every Saturday unless winning the games and winning the national title is guaranteed. - Which is equally as absurd.

It doesn't cost anything to tune into a game. To fly to Orlando, stay, rent a car, pay for tix... it's a $2000 bill at least. That's the rationale.

I didn't mean to imply that you or your friends were dumb. I am sorry if that's they way it came across. Of course I understand the $$ aspect of it but I disagree with the "scrimmage" part of it. I understand we, as fans, are basically split 50/50 on that view..... so.... shrugs.

I think that we are in better shape than some teams. I think Illinois is also in pretty good shape - I haven't heard otherwise. But yet we will play without our leading rusher and best defender. That's a no-sale for me.

I just spent my "bowl" money to rent a house for three nights down in Charleston in order to get family members ordinarily separated by distance under the same roof for a few days. No regrets.

I was very fortunate, our house did not receive any damage. Some houses down our street received severe damage as a result of the strong. Thanks for asking. Have you been doing any traveling of our Western States?

We haven't done a lot of traveling this year (I'm still a working man). This past summer, we did a road trip back to SC taking a circuitous route through TX, LA, and MS so that we could tour a few colleges and see some old friends, but that's about it.

You mean how pathetically the media wants Miami to be relevant again. How they truly did not beat someone with a pulse but the media wanted so desperately to make them relevant. I would play Miami seven days a week and twice on Sunday and win seven out of eight. Clemson has a good team, but make no mistake, they would not be making the college football playoffs numerous years had they not been in the ACC

Man I really wanted to see us paired with Miami for a bowl this year. I mean chomping at the bit wanting. I dont usually like playing acc teams postseason but I would have happily made an exception there.

USC only has TWO OPT OUTS for the Citrus Bowl! For a non CFP team, that’s incredible. In 2022, I bought six tickets to the Gator Bowl, we had at least ten opt outs/transfers - Bell, Stogner, Lloyd, Pickens, Cam Smith, and Edmonds, are a few starters that come to mind. Had we had only two opt outs, we were definitely as good, or better, than ND.

That trip cost me a few thousand dollars, to support a team down 20-25% of our starters. One T on the depth chart, Adkins, got injured in the game. We were woefully lacking in depth, and still damn near won that game on.

We were cooking with gas. Then we ran out of gas.

Refs were never going to allow a SC win in that game.

When Adkins got injured, I turned to my son and said there goes 1/2 of our offense. No depth on defense, ND just ran the ball down our throat the last 20 minutes or so. Hell of crowd we took down there though!
When we got the pick-6 at the end to tie it, I told my son that we needed to do a surprise onside kick right there. I felt like that was our only chance to win the game given how gassed our defense was. It would have been a great time for Beamer Ball to win us a game. But, alas, we kicked it off normally and couldn't stop them on that last drive.

I watched some of the ACCN ACC basketball tournament trilogy last night, episodes #2 and 3 just to see how they would perceive our early 70's run and departure. It was pretty much what I would expect, they didn't paint us in a very good light, they hated McGuire because of the North Carolina recruiting mess and his New York player pipeline, they hated our style and there were some racial undertones presented that didn't put USC in a favorable light. I think they were happy when we left the conference and as Cremin's said, at the time it was a terrible move for us.

I agree, some folks seem more concerned with the ACC and how Clemson does than how the Gamecocks are doing. It seems like we have our own teams to talk about and don't need to be worried about how the neighbors are doing.
