redshirt Brunetti. I guess it was really imperative to get the NCAA to grant the waiver for him to play immediately.

This may go without saying, but the Rebels are 17ed at this position unless Brunetti does redshirt. The three scholarship QBs they have right now are Mackey (Junior), Stoudt (Junior) and Brunetti (Soph.). Oh yeah, I forgot, Mikhail Miller is waiting in the wings with a greyshirt. Remember, the best QB the State of Mississippi has produced since Jason Campbell.

I figured he'd get some kind of "injury" that would get him a medical redshirt. He isn't ready to play right now, and I'm not sure he ever will be. It was a huge mystery to me why Stoudt wasn't named as their started back in the spring. He's clearly the only one of the three that has any chance to be halfway decent (and yes, I do realize he threw 5 picks last weekend but I still believe that). I don't really blame Nutt for getting the waiver though. WVU obviously had no problem with it since they filed a response to the NCAA asking that they grant the waiver. And we can't say too much about the "injury" redshirt either, since we did the same thing with Mike Henig a few years ago.

At what point do they have to designate him as redshirted for the season?

and doesn't play at all after the 6th game of the season, he can get a medical redshirt. No real deadline for it though, so if they needed to use him late in the season, they could.

I thought he has already played this year, so redshirt would be burned...

I believe if he claims an injury they could grant him a medical RS. Dubious, sure, but the Bears have a knack for pulling **** like this out of their hats.

Not unless Brunetti comes up with a season ending "injury".Maybe a knee injury will be the official reason but we know it's because he fell to 3rd on the depth chart and isn't ready.

It is pretty easy to fake an injury and be granted a medical redshirt.....but you don't typically have a head coach announce that plan at a press conference. So now, after the NCAA has granted Brunetti an exception to let him play without sitting out a year, they are going to be asked to let him sit out a year after all based upon an obviously fake injury? Shrewd.

Since Brunetti played at least one snap, he cannot redshirt this year. He is considered a sophmore for eligibility purposes because he played at WVU last season and has played for the Bears this year. Next year, he will be a junior (and could redshirt next year assuming he does not play).

If he suffers a season ending injury this year (or any year for that matter) after having appeared in fewer than 30% of the Bears games before the midway point of the season, he could petition the NCAA for a medical redshirt once his eligibility has otherwise been exhausted.

Hootie should have given this a little more thought before he started Brunetti against BYU. What a 17ing moron.

It's not a matter of when. If Nutt has plans of trying to redshirt him then "the injury" has already occured. I remember Croom doing the same, but I can't remember who the player was.

As I recall Dee Arrington played a couple of pointless minutes at the tail end of the Memphis game, so did we burn his redshirt or does the rule act differently for true freshmen? Seems like a complete waste ifforone of our bestrecruits fromlast year to haveused up a year of eligibility on such inconsequential of a game... (disclaimer: if he was injured and eligible to have medicle redshirt, I was unaware)

Henig played against Vandy as a true freshman, then got a medical redshirt for a "shoulder separation".
