I know your original question solely concerned the football program, but I don't think you can separate it from the rest of the athletic department. Without the revenue generated by our SEC football program, we probably wouldn't have a couple of baseball national championships or women's basketball national championships, or any expectations of being a perennial contender in either sport. I know all of us would gladly trade all four of those titles for one in football, but we'd also rather have those four than nothing at all.

I'm glad you posted this, I was going to post something similar. I couldn't care less about wbb, and I'm not really a fan of the game of baseball as a whole, but these other sports benefitted from us being in the sec, imho.

My preference would be if the success was shifted to football, but the football gods don't listen to me.

Other than Joe Morrison’s ‘84 team and George Rodgers, we had no history of success. The SEC put us on the map. Two national championships in baseball and one in WBB. Not to mention all our bowl wins in football and making the conference championship in football. We had no history before. With NIL and the portal, the game has changed. Being in the SEC positions us to better take advantage of the new football world order. We made the move way ahead. imagine us being an independent in todays college football. No coach would give us a look. Fact is, no matter what we look like now, we do have the fan base and the conference affiliation to draw a top coach. Not saying change the head coach yet, but we are much, much better off in the SEC. Oh, and left off a regular season men’s B ball title under Fogler and a Final Four under Martin. Doubt any of those things happen if we were not an SEC program.

Miles ahead, playing a very difficult schedule yearly (# 1 toughest schedule in the country this year according to Sagarin). We would probably be 5-1 this year w/a healthy Juice Wells. All we need is better recruits!
Sorry, this team is more than a Juice Wells away from 6-1. A lot.

I stick to my earlier assertion that the South Carolina job is not a highly desirable job that is going to pull a top tier head coach away from another major program. I think the best chance for success is an up and coming G5 coach who wants to use Carolina as a way to get into a P5 job.

This is probably the biggest reason that most Carolina fans, who have been around long enough to have experienced the coaching carousel over the last 20-25 years, are sort of content with Beamer and think he is a good fit.

I say sort of because just like everyone else, we are tired of losing and want to experience a run equal to or better than Spurrier had but are realistic to the fact that USC just doesn’t have all the necessary ingredients to be a perennial Georgia or Alabama.

If Coach Beamer can give Carolina fans a product to be proud of over a period of 15-20 years like his father did at VT, then great. Those years would be very similar to Spurrier’s with respect to record and accomplishments.

The man has the values, pedigree and moral compass to provide us with some long term success, by our standards, if we give him time. He also loves the state and university and if we commit to him, he will commit to us giving us less to worry about once he develops into a top tier coach. Make no mistake he will become top tier somewhere, I prefer it to be here.
