Ultrasound I had last week showed a 1.5 cm inguinal hernia. Is it really necessary to have the surgery? Pain in my gut isn't bad, but the pain going to the groin is difficult. Have had mesh surgery before, on same side that the 1.5 is showing up. What's weird is the catscan I just had did not show the hernia. Any help would be appreciated....can't golf, only watch!

I would guess that its 1.5 now, but will expand over time. Better to do now before it grows. Maybe go to a different surgical group if you've already had the same side repaired. It might be a bad job and malpractice.

Many years ago I had right inguinal laprascopy. It was fine except for waking up with dry heaves from the anesthesia. It was extremely painful, but fortunately didn't affect the repair or the incisions. I think I was back to normal in a few days.

The surgery I had was ten years ago. The CT showed the mesh and said it was normal(thank god). I was out of commission for 3 weeks, maybe now it will be a quicker recovery. Problem is, I may have to wait a month to get cut. Things are that blocked up here....if I have to wait that long I may say no way. Thanks man..

Schedule it, come back here for daily affirmation and advice, ponder your life choice, and then change your mind and cancel as you get closer if you want.
I figured this was a good place to gather info. Any place you can get first rate advice on food, lattes, Midnighter polls, offensive, defensive, special team schemes has to be the place to go to and get sound medical advice!

What activity are you engaging in that is causing these multiple hernias?

Just had robotic hernia surgery on may. The doctor thought I had two but it was one. The groin pain got worse as I was playing golf beforehand. I was playing golf 6 weeks later only because i had a tourney at center hills in state college, I took 4 weeks off after that and kept feeling better as time went on. Robotic is the most pain free from what I hear.

Good question. I refuse to lift anything over 20 pounds because the doctor scared the hell out of me when he said don’t even think about lifting anything.

Just use what good old Fred Garvin used, trusses!

that’s my rather elaborate network of trusses. I will need your help with a couple of these. I got the old hernia truss here.. and I got a spleen truss, it opens up with a couple of snaps here in the back.”

I had a right inguinal hernia several years ago. Yes you need to get it removed. It can grow and cause increased pain even when you sneeze. The surgery now is much less invasive. Recovery time is 2-3 weeks. If you need any more info let me know. But yes, get it removed!

I had both right and left inguinal surgeries done about a dozen years ago. They we’re going to try and take care of both at the same time but the left side was way too bad. I was a runner at the time and it was funny but I could kind of push the protrusion back in and start my run. After a little bit the abdomen would tighten up and I would feel much better afterward. What did me in was standing for most of my day as a teacher and walking on the hard stone floors of the school. It got unbearable, as did mowing the lawn, which my doctor said is one of the worst activities to aggregate the situation. Anyway, the surgery was the best thing. Never had any problem since. Normal recovery after pain and limited mobility for a week or so. I remember being shocked at how unbelievably hard it was to even attempt to sit up in bed. Used a walker too For a week or so. Second one was worse as apparently they had to move some nerves that really became inflamed. Oh well. That’s my story. Good luck to you.

I've had laparoscopic right and left inguinal done 8 and 19 years ago respectively. No issues. Recovery time to play golf was like 4 months though. I'm sure the procedures now have better recovery times for that sport. Doc always said it was the twisting motion of golf that could re-open the sutures so i was careful. Get it done, you will be fine. They only get worse, they never heal themselves. Last thing you want is strangulation of the bowel. That is serious sh**. Literally.
