Not going by pure talent but the combination of being impactful for the Maroon & White. Longevity, stats, being beloved by Bulldog faithful.

Jamont Gordon needs to be on there somewhere.

Tang Hamilton honorable mention.

Spots are tough. But yeah, I’d absolutely put Gordon where Frazier is. Could go in a 1,2,3, or even 4 spot.

I like Bost but I might go with Tony Watts there. I think you’ve got to have a spot for Watts and Cameron Burns since they did win our first SEC championship in 30 years.

Smoke would have all of those centers frustrated because of his defensive rebounding

If you want to win?

1st team)
PG. Derrick Zimmerman

C. Erik Dampier

ETA: Jamont Gordon as PG might make this a better team but he might hurt them with team chemistry and turnovers.

Going by talent, have to have I think Dampier, Lawrence Roberts, and don’t jones at 5, 4, and 3. I think Timmy bowers at the 2 and then jamont Gordon at the 1. probably could make a better team by focusing more on roles, but unless I’m having a brain fart (very likely), I think other than maybe finding a place for Daryl Wilson, it’s pretty set. Outside of bowers, I think those are basically the players with the best professional careers at their positions. Have we really not had a two guard even get a cup of coffee in the pros since 1990? Or have a pretty good career over seas?

ETA:

After some memory jogging:

1st Team
1) Timmy Bowers
2) Q Weathwespoon
3) Dontae
4) Lawrence Roberts
5) Dampier

A little weak on ball handling, although Timmy played a lot of point. Still don't love the outside shooting, but I think all of those players except for Donta had at least two strong years for us and Donta was just on another level combined with being on the Final 4 teams gets him there in one year.

Any list that doesn't have have Dontae' Jones as first team is garbage. He was a first round draft pick and if not for issues with breaking his foot would have an NBA career. And how is going to the final four for the only time in school history not the most impactful season?

I have him on there skipper, just as 2nd team. Talent alone? yes... magical season? yes.... 1 season though.

I based it more on longevity and total years of greatness for State. Calm down.

Feels wrong that Marcus Grant isn't somewhere. Dude was a major piece on a Sweet Sixteen team and had a nice pro career overseas. Probably not Top 15, but deserves a mention. True Bulldog.

Also, we don't beat a great Kentucky team in Rupp without him going tha 17 off for 23. Check the box score. We had 24 turnovers and took 33 fewer shots. Hot three point shooting does indeed win tough road games...

Yeah, it's funny, I remember the win and the shooting clearly. We couldn't miss. Didn't remember that everybody on the team was tossing it to UK every other possession.

Also, note the appearance of UK's current HC in that game

He's also at a position that there's not much competition. If you wanted to leave Dampier off for some reason, you could at least make the argument for Lawrence Roberts. Roberts was better at getting points in college and was probably pretty close rebounding, he just wasn't as good of a defender. Then you have Varnado that had the all time blocks record to his name.

I don't know who you even argue for putting in over Donta. Bowers and Jamont Gordon could play the 3? Frazier is an all time fan favorite but he was essentially a D and 3 player before that was a term.

Dontae and lawrence start for sure on any all star team we could put together. Nice list though

This highlights how we've been a forward heavy program because I could be persuaded on several of our PFs and Cs, but the guard conversation is a lot more cut and dried. I mean Brandon Vincent isn't even mentioned.

Cam's 4 years of heart and hustle over Dontae' Jones 1 fabulous year. Just my opinion, maybe just a recency bias thing but Cam is a beast.

Your whole list is trash.

(1st team)
PG. Bart Hyche
SG. Marcus Bullard
SF. Elgin Bailey
PF. Renardo Sidney
C. Wesley Morgan

I assume this is the later Bart Hyche, after he learned to dribble the basketball.

One year of reaching the final four trumps 3 years of really good. I'm calm just laughing at your wrongness.

Jamont Gordon has to be listed. I would probably replace Horatio with Jamont since Horatio's kid transferred although you would just have to figure out the positions.

People forget that Jones didn't live up to the hype until very late in the season and into post season. He averaged around 13-14ppg. If you're going on pure talent alone, then maybe you can make the argument of 1st team but if you're going by actual on court performance then we've had better players. In all honesty, he under performed much of the year and was in the dog house of Richard Williams. Just depended on if you got good Dontae or bad Dontae.

He was the SEC tourney MVP and he was the key cog on the way to the final four. I dont remember "Bad Dontae". Only ram it down # 1 U KY's throat until they choked Dontae
