Alternate opinion of Relf....

At the start of the game, Relf actually threw some very good passes. He even threaded one in between some defenders. However, there was a series where Ballard and then Bumphis each dropped a pass (the Ballard one should've been reviewed because it looked like a catch on the replay). That's when Relf started looking like crap. <div>
</div><div>That said, the pass in OT was a thing of beauty. It was almost like MSU finally said, "Enough with this ****! Let's win and go home!"</div>

I HATED the playcalling and have no idea why we were so determined to throw, especially on 2nd and short (I was super pissed when we threw on the 2nd and 4 on the second to last drive before OT). I have NO IDEA what Mullen was thinking on that last drive. AND, I have no idea what that fake punt was and why it took place so deep in the backfield.

I think we REALLY miss Diaz and whoever calling the plays needs to stop. I'm thinking 6-6 is gonna be a challenge.

We are a run first, pass second team........We have to be able to run the football......If we would've been able to shred them for 5 yards a pop (which obviously we didn't), then Relf would've completed 75% of his passes and people on here would've been waiting in line to fellate him......This is a game where we should've pinned our ears back and ran it down their effing throats and we couldn't do it.....

Stuff the run and dare MSU to pass. That seems to work. MSU has to have an effective passing attack to be successful.

Agree. When you can't run or throw, there's not a lot left for playcalling.

Your explanation would make sense if we could actually run the ball, but we can't. Our O-line is terrible. If our QB could hit a wide open receiver running down the field then our "run first" offense might work a little better. Nobody fears Relf...not even La. Tech!

We will always be a run 1st team, but there has to be at least a threat thatwe might complete a pass. That's all I'm trying to say.

Dan got here and made him an adequate passer. But his game relies on making people respect the run and our OL depth combined with the fact that defenses now are stuffing the box is forcing him to try and be the QB he is not.

I saw a few plays last night where La Tech had 10 guys within 2 steps of our line of scrimmage. Until our OL grows up it is going to be tough this season.
