One of the best football programs in Pennsylvania was the AAHS program during the 1960s and early 1970s. For years Altoona petitioned the WPIAL to join the league. But the western PA. Schools didn't want to make the long trip to Altoona only to get beat. Which would of happened. These teams produced some great All Americans....Mike Reid, John Ebersole, Ed Flannigan and so on. Altoona was undefeated in 1962 and in 1966 beat Massillon Ohio on their home field before over 15k fans at Paul Brown Stadium. This is still considered one of the greatest wins in all of Pennsylvania high school football.
