66 yr old male, average drive 200 yards.
How does this compare with the average golfer?
Reading alot stuff on golfers opinions of senior tees being played on different golf courses.
Interested in what other golfers here think. Tired of bashing Kingston I am....
I don't know, I'm kind of done with the "senior" or even "men's" or "women's" label for tees. Play the tees that correspond with your handicap. If you are a 230lb beginner male golfer who can
occasionally hammer a 280 yard drive, but you typically shoot 120 from the "men's" tees, by all means, move up to the forward tees. EVERYBODY will have a more enjoyable experience, including the golfer himself and the group behind him. Some courses I play even list a suggested handicap for each tee to encourage folks to play the tees suited to them.
To answer your question, I think which tee you use has less to do with how far you can hit it and more to do with how consistently well you hit it. On most well-designed courses, the forward tees are not just closer to the hole, but strategically located with better angles to carry over or around hazards that come into play for the rear tees. Also, the rear tees often involve "chutes" between trees where a drive that's just a few degrees off-center wind up in the trees, but the same shot from the forward tees would be fine.
PS - this thread topic feels very familiar. I think we had this discussion some months ago.
