And by Saturday night, a fanbase will be ready to bail on the losing coach.

It'll be interesting to see if Napier survives the season. They have an absolute gauntlet the last 7 games of the season. @ UT, vs UK, vs UGA, @ Texas, vs LSU, vs Ole Miss, @ FSU (which appears less daunting than it did a week ago).

They should be at least 3-3 entering the UT game.

The question is how long do you give someone to prove it? 3 years? 5? Especially with a new head coach, but any coach will know more about their situation and how to coach in general in year 6 than year 2. Coaching isn't a static thing. Beamer isn't necessarily the best coach he's going to be yet.
From the get go, I have said 5. Certainly by then we should know. If he has not learned by then.... You know he has a Hall Of Famer right there to be a "sounding board". Not all coaches have that advantage.

Let me just add this: I think we are going to be damn good this season. Only 2 games are lost causes, as far as I am concerned: Bama and Okl,

UK game will answer a lot of questions. I'll feel a good bit more chipper if we escape Lexington with a W.

That beast Deone Walker is still there, which worries me. He was all over the place against us last year.

I cannot disagree with you. Darn right about that. It worries me, to be honest.

It will also be interesting to see if Sam Pittman at Arkansas survives the season. Why do I bring him up? Before hiring Beamer, Pittman's name came up as a reason to hire Beamer. Both were position coaches, not an OC nor DC, prior to their hires as SEC Head Coaches. If things don't go well for us this season and Pittman gets fired and Clemson returns back to the level they were when Muschamp was here, things will get interesting. Beamer has benefitted by Clemson not being as good as they were when Muschamp was here. I'm not saying Beamer would be fired. I'm just saying that the pressure in 2025 would be enormous.

I remember in Pittman's 2nd season at Arkansas, the Hogs were 4-0 and had just beaten Texas and Texas A&M, had climbed to #8 in the country, and had many Carolina fans convinced that two years is enough time to turn a program around if you hire the right guy. The next week, Gameday was at their game in Athens, where they lost 37-0. Then they went 4-4 over their last 8 games (but were still a solid team) and have only gone downhill from there.

Pittman may yet turn things around there, but it will be interesting to see how much patience they have if he goes, say, 5-7 in his fifth year.

I don't know if Arkansas is the caliber of team that would can a coach mid-season, but it it seemed Pittman was on the verge of getting canned last year. If the fans and boosters push hard enough, then maybe. They have a pretty rough slate in the middle chunk of their season, playing A&M, UT, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas in a 6-game stretch.

Glad you pointed that out. Just another example that in this league, it's not easy to avoid a tough schedule. I just hope that IF things don't turn out well for us this season, nobody gives a "pass" because of our schedule. But some will. We are in the SEC, not the ACC.

Yeah, I don't think we got the worst of it by far. A lot is made of us playing Bama and OU back-to-back on the road, but UF's final 7 game stretch is utterly brutal.

Besides, we play the "tough schedule' card every year. Literally every year.
