There's a VERY long list of can't-miss coaches who missed.

Herman and Fuente were the absolute IT guys at about the same time. I am not even sure Fuente is coaching anymore.

The real question is this : How long before AD's and school officials figure out that gambling with huge "can't miss" coaching contracts ($$$) is indeed just gambling..... ?? (Herman probably doesn't fit but you get the point)

I'll add Kevin Sumlin in there. He looked like an absolute rock star after a couple of years at A&M, but he settled in at about the level we would settle for after that, and they let him go. A&M aspires to more - at any price.

All of those were in good shape but went a job too far, though Freeze was jettisoned. People move from a favorable fit to a less favorable fit. It's one of the dangers.

It appears we found a good long term HC with Beamer, so Im very happy with what we got!

I would not count Riley in that list just yet. He has had one successful HC job and I think it is reasonable to think he can still do it again, maybe just not at Southern Cal.
