A few years ago Georgia State gave Tennessee a heck of a game. South Carolina is not that much better than that Tennessee team. I think this will be a close game.
Georgia State took Auburn to the wire last year at Auburn. Ga ST. is not a joke, they are a good team.
Yep. We should win the game, but it’s a game we could lose. There’s a fine line between being confident and giving your opponent unnecessary motivation.
Besides, P5 opponents just don’t talk trash about lower level competition. I’d be less annoyed if he said this about an SEC team. Just let your game do the talking…or at least do something before you talk.

P5 opponents don't boast about how they're going to win a game against a Sunbelt Conference team. DJ would haver never done something like that.

As for DJ, he’s one of my favorite Gamecocks no matter how many unnecessary penalties calls he may have been responsible for. Bottomline DJ set the tone and did what it took to do it, penalty flag or not. Now as for Mr Wells and his comment about the Ga. State, it shouldn’t cost us a penalty flag or any sleep! I’m pretty sure the kid wouldn’t have made this comment against a P5 team! If Coach Beamer has a problem with this, he probably already addressed it.
As for amateur hour, its already here because we are spending so much time with this Ga.St. bull

I don't know why you're bringing DJ into the discussion. The things you're talking about have no bearing on this. It's apples and oranges.
Do I like Wells mindset? Sure. I want our players to be confident going into the game. There are just some things you don't say publicly. Proverbs 29:11 -- A fool uttereth all his mind.. Like I said in the OP: keep it in house. Pump each other up in practice and the locker room.
And It's just a bush league thing to do. Alabama knows they're going to obliterate Utah State. They will vaporize them. Are the players going out and saying so publicly? Of course not. Why not? One, it doesn't need to be said. Two, it's just good sportsmanship...you don't talk trash to an outmanned opponent like a lower division FBS or an FCS school. Coaches teach this attitude from a young age. Three, it just make us look amateurish...talking trash to Ga State? Really? Is that how low we've sunk? It's embarrassing.
For us, it just creates an unnecessary distraction. The preseason seems to be going well. Recruiting is humming along. The last thing you want to do is give a team like Ga State motivation. All you need to do is go in and take care of business.

Check this out. Sticks the tackle, causes the fumble, then looks to the sideline for the next play. We need more players like this and less flapping gums.

Yes. We are going to go ahead and crucify this kid off one statement. It is not like he wen on and on. He made one misspeak. Seems like some adults here need to grow up also. If the kid turns out to be one of our best playmakers, some here would not even recognize that they wanted him kicked off the team for saying something he should have not said during his first SEC press conference. It's expected there. Kids will usually try to live up to expectations.
That was obviously hyperbole, but for people claiming my statement was an overreacting, What is Run the whole team until they puke?" Cmon people, its a long season and this was the first press conference, by a new player and obviously confident dude.
I think Spencer Rattler can be a big help to our team in this way. He's been around big time college football, so he knows how to carry himself.

If you can't discern the difference between talking smack to a fellow P5 team and talking smack to a Sunbelt Conf. them, then you obviously never played sports.
You also don't seem to grasp the difference between talking smack in the game vs bulletin board material.

The difference to me is that teams, units and individuals do often get run into exhaustion as discipline, even for something like this. They don't usually get kicked off a team, to my knowledge.
But the point stands, one needs to show it on the field first, imo. And one looks kind of weak, talking junk to a sunbelt team. Play well, then say it to Arkansas? Different story.

Bud, I already said he probably wouldn’t have said this to a P5 school!!! As for sports I played baseball and football. You my friend appear to be more of a slow pitch softball guy! Again my friend taunting is taunting no matter how you decide to communicate it!
