Why is Pope pursuing Stokes? The kid does not seem compatible with Pope’s approach.
Attitude wise, it does seem that way. However, Pope also likely wants to keep his job and prove he can recruit ("pay") a top prep talent to wear Kentucky blue. Kid is a talent, we need talent.

Tyran Stokes has a chance to change the program like Mashburn/John Wall.

I think he knows this and will be a Cat. If he goes to Kansas he’s just another player. They have players like Peterson. They won’t be drooling over Stokes like us Tucky fans. Yea we had plenty of talent for 15 years. Most of us are dying to see what Pope can do with it.
Kansas also has a coach who recently threw their Freshman sensation under the bus (justifiably I must admit). A skipped handshake (Stokes) and a few words about Peterson might make our dollars more attractive that the dollars from the University of Kansas Penal Institute.

I mean I read on there between $4 million and $6 million- if we have $22 million to spend again, I think you meet in the middle at $5 million and get it done! Don't we all wish now we had just done that for Dybansta or Caleb Wilson?

That leaves you with $17 freaking million dollars to fill out the roster with.

Stokes- $5 million
Collin- $2 million
Malachi- $3 million (because of the threat of the NBA draft)
Kam- $2 million

Portal PG stud- $2.5 million
Portal SG/SF stud - $2.5 million
Jelavic or backup 4 man- $1.5 million
3 & D bench guy- $1 million
Backup PG- $1.5 million
Backup 5 man- $1 million

That's your $22 million right there, not to mention we are also offering rev sharing which gives us another like $8 million I think? Can't remember. Money isn't an object at Kentucky, just get it done.
Where is Garrison on your returning list? Just joking, I like it, now the Big question is if we really have or had 22 million in the first place and are we going to get it again after this year’s mess?

No way in hell Pope is getting $22 million again next season. I'd be shocked if he has more than $12-15 million to spend.

He will.

Boosters are desperate for us to be relevant again AND we now have Rev-sharing also. He’ll have members of the ‘96 team, Jeff & Reed Sheppard, etc. all calling boosters, raising funds, etc.

Plus, hopefully a new top-notch GM who boosters will trust the money with more.

I think we’ll be totally fine financially.

We don’t have 22mil or even a budget of whatever the school can get in donations this year. This is going to be the first season where NIL deals are now being paid by the rev share and actual company deals for the players.

School's NIL collectives (like we have with ClubBlue) can still negotiate NIL deals for players in addition to RevSharing. They are separate.

KU is likely going to insist (I would) on Stokes playing a minimum number of minutes, attending all practices, putting in good faith effort to further KU basketball...things in response to Darryn Peterson behavior. And could be a new pay as you go model and add in some bonus clauses (win conference, win POY, advancing in the NCAAT).

No they cannot, your picture contradicts your words. There is no more we’ll pay you 5 million if you come to UK unless it comes from the 22 million rev share (which Basketball gets like 5 million from) or from actual endorsement deals, which can be negotiated through UK but also is going through JMI for us.

That is literally what we have been doing. I don't think you quite know what NIL is. It's "Name, Image and Likeness", they are all negotiated endorsement deals, schools are just saying, "We'll guarantee you $5 million in NIL (AKA Endorsement deals) to come here". They are all negotiated via JMI and through the Club Blue NIL collective. Literally none of that is going to change, that is still allowed and will continue to happen. RevShare is just a part of this now as well where schools won't need to rely solely on NIL to compensate players.

people are going to say Stokes isnt worth 6 million and you know what, no GD player is coming here for next year without being massively over paid because Pope is on the Hot Seat and with a bad reputation now.

But I want Pope out of here so dont pay any good players what they are asking so we can go head and throw away next season like all of you want us to do and move the hell on from this failed experiment.

So whoever pays what he wants is the leader basically.
No, UK has the most lucrative deal on the table, but KU was always his first choice, and still leads, but they are working out the whole Nike/ Adidas thing.

Let’s take off our blue tinted glasses and think from Stokes’ perspective…

Do you want to put your image on stage for a guy who has forgotten more about this stuff (Peterson just this season alone)than all but a very small fraction of coaches all time, or…

Do you take a gamble for slightly more $$$, that’s not even going to be a factor a little over a year from now, on a guy who has never had any experience showcasing future NBA all stars, who plays bench guys as much or more than his starters, who’s going to surround you with lesser talent, AND, that’s going to be on the Hot Seat the entire season you are there?

Yet, here we are even debating such utter nonsense, as even a remote possibility of occurring 🤣

I won’t go back into details on this post as my post about this is still on the first page. We have a legit shot and we are offering substantially more than Kansas. It’s really up to Stokes at this point but I don’t see him taking a 2.5 million pay cut to play at Kansas. Time will tell but I still believe amazingly that he ends up here next year.

In no world should we pay Moreno 3 million. He is good, but he’s not 3 million good.

Wrong again. Before this season schools could just pay whatever they deemed necessary for players. There was no 22 million dollar cap that the rev share now has in effect, that’s shared between all sports. If they had the money, no matter how they got it, it could be spent on players. Now the school has a hard cap of 22 million they can put towards players. The rest must came from some type of endorsement deal. Yes they can still guarantee you’ll get a certain amount but the only actual money they have is the 22 million. The rest would either need to be already in place deals, or would need to be worked out. You can say it’s still the same when they can no longer write the checks and it’s other business that have to be willing to pay for it.
