I know there was a thread that day about the countless amount of State Troopers out that weekend (i know it was New Year's Eve). I didnt chime in then because i was driving when i saw the thread but nonetheless I did get pulled over traveling down that Friday in 17'in Vienna, Georgia I was traveling at a cruising speed of 85 when every car with me was doing at least that I was getting passed. Cop in a Tahoe gets behind me I see lights and was like I better get outta the way b/c hes after someone else and then he pulls me over makes me get out of the car asking if im drunk or high and if he can search the vehicle (he didnt). So I get a $231 ticket sent to me in February by far the most expensive one ive gotten in my life, then two weeks later I get another piece of mail from the State of Georgia saying i owe $200 dollars more because of the "Super Speeder" Law that if your going over 15mph over the speed limit on the Interstate they slap it on as well. Reason Im bringing it back up is because I just paid it and was pissed as i was the day i got pulled over hitting that CONFIRM TRANSACTION button is that not just a money making scheme or what they dont give a **** about 15 over. Grand Total $431 and some change, anyone have a more expensive ticket than that?

in Louisville. I routinely go 10 over and that is the only time I have ever gotten pulled over since I was in high school. So, I was going 75 in a 65 or whatever.
Then the cop goes on about me going to court- I was like "Look, I ain't going to court- just tell me where to send the money". He looked genuinely disappointed that I wasn't going to fight it. I figured the last thing I needed to do was go BACK up there take a day off work to go there, waste gas, and then listen to some redneck judge tell me how "Well.... this ain't the city boy....we got laws around here." And then pay a court fee on top of everything. The only way I figured that I could win would be to find out that the judge and the police officer were having some sort of gay affair- which is entirely possible. The funny thing was the cop had some Major Dangle shorts on. Except he was a lot fatter.
But yeah- traffic tickets are a racket pretty much anywhere. Mine wasn't that much because obviously I wasn't going that fast. Still pissed me off- like anyone else would have been in that situation.

and have been pulled over for speeding zero times since then, despite the fact that I generally haul *** on the interstate. It isn't an invisibility cloak but combined with sharp eyes and some awareness of what's happening on the road it's a great tool.
place that local cops are ALWAYS lurking in the median/over a hill hoping they can stop you so they can hopefully give you tickets for other peccadilloes like careless driving or some other "gotcha" type fine. Their Barney Fife behavior is exactly why Sheriffs will never be given radar.

I had left Jackson and seen several troopers out that day, either parked or pulling people over, so I figured I'd just set it on 75 and not worry whatsoever. Son of a ***** cop was traveling the opposite direction, went past me, cut across the median, and chased me down. Gave me the whole "we have zero tolerance around here boy" speech...
Complete ******** and waste of time and tax payer dollars - especially in a city with crime problems like Memphis. The cops used to be notoriously bad on that road. I assume they had a ticket quota to meet. They would go crazy at the end of the month and pick people off from a couple of strategic spots all day. I had to go to take half my day to drive over to 201 Poplar only to have the clerk dismiss the ticket. At least half the tickets were thrown out in my session.
They must have changed policies recently - I haven't seen them do this in a couple of years. Regardless, tickets for 5 mph over is cold hearted. Maintaining a speed of 5mph of the posted speed limit requires concentration - most likely enough of a conscious effort to take concentration off the road.

and the cop said he gave me the ticket is b/c it was raining? wtf? He also gave me a ticket for no seatbelt, when I was about 100 yds from my house. He asked where I was going and I said home. He didn't wanna hear it.

I've seen like four or five- being conservative- in a row.
What I get a kick out of is how they aim their radar guns like it's a shotgun or something. I've seen MLB scouts just kind of hold their radar guns in the general direction and it works pretty well.

64 in a 55 in Charlotte two weeks ago
and the worst was about 8 mph over on Hwy 82 headed to the GTR airport and ended up missing my flight + the fine ....ugh

are so mad that they are getting tickets for only breaking the law a little and not by a larger margin. I mean, I understand the "unwritten cushion" that most people think they get on the roads. I really do. I use that cushion as well. But if I get pulled over for doing 7 miles over the LEGAL LIMIT, then I really don't have a leg to stand on when I want to whine about it.<div>

Got to get the money to run the governments from somewhere... I have gotten out of three tickets in the past four years, but had to pay the last one...
I was a policeman in Memphis and our favorite ploy to write tickets was to go to Overton Park just after dark, where the speed limit was 10, and write speeding tickets to cruisers picking up the gay prostitutes. Perfect situation; 12 MPH in a 10MPH zone and they never showed up in court. Ah, the good ole days!
they are busting people left and right for 5-7 mph over the limit, trying to pay for all these damn roads they are building. Plus, with city police and more sheriffs per capita than any other place in the US, to go along with the troopers, you see a cop of some sort about every 17'n quarter mile of road, highway or streets. And the crime rate is still rising.

I got pulled over for doing 89 in a 55. I was passing a long line of bikers going 60 (I wanted to go 65). So I stomped it to get passed these guys, to reduce the amount of time I lingered in the oncoming lane and reduce my risk of a head on collision. Well, the trooper clocked me probably at my fastest point. When I noticed him behind me, I had actually slowed back down to 70.
Well, my ticket was around $250. But the lovely state of Louisiana sent me another letter telling me it was my lucky day. If I paid them another $175, they would change the violation to a non-moving violation, which would keep the violation off of my insurance record. I did it but kept all documentation, so when my insurance goes up b/c of it, maybe I'll have a case. They sent me a new copy of the ticket, and someone had drawn a line through "speeding" and written in "parking" by the violation. They basically falsified a document to take money out of the insurance company's pocket and put it in theirs. I don't understand how that is legal.

Was driving down I-59 back to New Orleans and pulled into the rest stop that you come to just over the Louisiana state line. There was a cop standing next to his car at the entrance to the rest stop and he waived me over. Said I had been clocked by an airplane as doing 78 in a 70 and he gave me a ticket. I think he was full of shite but I didn't have the time at the time to contest the ticket. Think it ended up being about $125.
I'm not really much a speeder generally speaking. Between New Orleans and Starkville, the difference between going 70 and going 75 is about 12-15 minutes of total driving time. It's not worth risking a ticket that might be a couple hundred dollars just to save 15 minutes.

Anyone remember Wilmer, AL? I was not old enough to drive when the town it was considered a speed trap, but I remember every time we went to the beach mom reminding dad he better slow down.
As I was looking for the name of the town I found a couple of interesting quotes on the speed trap. Seems like the speed limit change every mile or so as well.

*Before the city was shut down by the state, the officers on duty were required to issue 24 tickets per 8 hour shift. That's 3 stops per hour that result in a fine of some sort. And the fines were outrageous, usually $300+ dollars. (this guy may be stretching it a bit)

do not, I repeat, do not speed in Mobile County. They have taken unmarked cars to a whole new level. It used to be just unmarked chargers, but not anymore. Now its all sorts of vehicles including trucks and SUV's.

It has an "integrated" radar system with lazar jammer. That is all well and good for "normal" speeds. I have found however that at higher rates of speed, its useless. I'm sure one of you engineer types can do the math for me, but the principal is simple enough. The faster you go, the less time you have to react to a signal plus breaking time.
So most of the time I have to use cruise, unless of course I'm coming back from the boats at 200am. My personal best, Biloxi to Mobile in 20 mins.

I got one for going 46 in a 35 workzone just north of Indianapolis. Over $400. They at first wanted me to come to court, but allowed me to mail in a payment. I saw no point in contesting, they had me dead to rights. Illinois sets up photo equipment to catch you in workzones and their fines start at $375. Illinois will also suspend your license for two moving violations. They are serious. Interstate speed limit is 65 in Illinois. I obey it to the letter.
