Anyone else really excited about having a 6'5" QB?

Allar's height is what I'm most excited about right now and could be his most important attribute going into his first year as the starter. We haven't had a QB who could see, post snap, over the OL/DL to scan the entire field in a long time. This has to have an effect on a QB's split decision making abilities and overall pocket presence. I would assume Clifford and Trace had to either drop back further or roll out to get a similar viewpoint as Allar will have in the pocket.

it will be good to have a QB with his measurables and arm strength. Tom Brady used to say that the only reason you need a bunch of WRs who can win 50/50 balls, is that the QB doesn't have the accuracy and arm strength to get ball to open WRs. If you have a guy like KJ Hamler who is wide open and underthrow so he waits, suddenly we have 50/50 ball. nice to have WRs who can win battles, but Kerry Collins did not need 50/50 WRs. We may have WRs on the roster now who can get open deep.

It's no wonder he's driving an Inch and Co. vehicle.

not very well for his soph and jr seasons. somehow with no college experience, it did work as FR = what caused that? I have never seen his sack totals by year, but jr year was I recall 48 sacks. he seldom ran the ball, which was also an issue. I believe when Trace came in, one difference was he avoided sacks and ran more. That showed up in the final bowl game.

Anthony Morelli was 6'4" and 240lbs, but was often seen getting twisted like a pretzel on option runs....

Hack had 3 future NFL lineman that first year. After that, 2 converted DLs were getting serious playing time on the OL.

I would say everyone should pump the brakes a bit.
I read PS will be a top offensive team because of Allar. That’s a lot of pressure being put on the kid.
And, when he misses a few passes in the first couple of games, people will be barking. What happens if he doesn’t scramble? Takes sack because he isn’t a Trace of Sean?
I kinda sorta feel sorry for the kid because he’s going to have a ton of pressure to be perfect.

His height is one of the last things I'm excited about, other than the fact that he's a big body (likely to stand up to pounding), and that big body helps him with his cannon of an arm. Clifford didn't have a height issue - 6'2" is tall enough to not have to compensate or to be limited in what you can see.

With Allar, given his quick release and his rocket for an arm, the main thing I'm worried about is what's between the ears. Will he gunsling and force stuff, thinking he can make any pass and fit it into tight spaces, or will he take what's available, and work with that?

Really excited? Nope. All I care about is whether he can do the job (we hired him to do).

Sacca was 6’5”. Had a big arm
So unless Allar is measuring himself by height at Bushwood Country Club-his height does not excite me.

He also had an NFL caliber OC/HC calling the plays for him and teaching him. After that, John Donovan.

Hack was coached by no less than FOUR NFL organizations and the Memphis Grizzlies....apparently all of them were lousy coaches as well.
Don’t get me wrong, Hack was underwhelming, but he looked promising under BO’B and it all went to hell in a hand basket after that.

Not sure if being tall is an advantage, because I never coached HS football and am unfit to weigh in on it.

Rumors were that BO’B instructed Hack where to throw the ball. Having good TEs and Allen Robinson made that a little easier.

I wonder how good Hack would have been had he had Bill as his coach for 4 years.

Please do not insinuate that he was not as well coached his last two seasons. That blasphemy will get you ridiculed here.

No kidding, raz. If Allar can be anything close to that 5 star potential, the Lions might pwn EVERYONE next season. The personnel is in place. Rarely have I ever been as amped up for a Lions football season as I am for this next one.
I think it was 93 that we said our offense would be pretty good next year but I think you have to go back to 81 to really say wow next year offense could be something. This offense has that potential.

Don’t worry, the first few bad passes the experts on here will be calling for Pribula and the pressure will be off Allar and on Franklin to do the right thing.

I would honestly be more excited if he ran the 40 in 4.4....you can win championships with a QB who can turn a broken play or a potential coverage sack into a first down or more.

his height is a plus, but I worry about his lack of mobility
As you should be. The dfference between Clifford and Allar will be greater than the difference between McSorely and Clifford in terms of mobility.

Saw a few plays where Allar decided to go east west. Big boy isn’t my getting away from anyone. Get north south, get a few yards, get down and live for the next play.

The one thing Allar has going for him that McS or Clifford did not - an offensive line that is not......offensive. They may actually be able to do their job....

If mobility is an issue, then use that NIL money wisely. Franklin should hire a couple of snipers with long range rifles to gun down any pass rusher that comes near Allar. That should fix the problem.

I think the Athletic Department will have to hire a Vice President for that. Sounds more like an admininstative function.
