For the first time since I moved to Charleston in 2006, I am not going to a home game. I just cannot stomach watching us get boat raced by those Orange inbreds. NOW, if Beamer announces that someone else will be calling the plays then I will attend.
I will be at the Charleston Classic however watching Paris' boys play.
Kudos to all of you going to the football game and may God bless you all!

I'm not really sure what the draw is for anyone to attend. I guess some feel like it's incumbent on the fans to show support for the players, but it costs time and money to show your support. After the way our defense has been dragged in the last 2 games, the UT game is a total nightmare matchup. Combine that with our impotent offense and it's gonna be a long night. This will be the 3rd game this season that's over in the first quarter.

College football is entertainment for most of us and nothing more. Like any other form of entertainment, do what you enjoy.

If your kid is playing, that's different. But most of us don't know any of these guys and these guys aren't going to be supporting us in our old age. Life is too short to spend your entertainment dollars and hours on things that don't bring you joy.

Yup. Entertainment. Which is why it baffles me when some fans try to guilt other fans into showing up to support the team. They aren't going to let fans into the game for free. You pay a pretty penny for the right to get a seat and show support. Fans are consumers and Gamecock football is the product. Nothing more, nothing less.

Now, if they wanted to do something like give every fan in attendance a voucher for a free ticket to any game next season, that would be a different story.

Because it's more than entertainment to them. Their self-worth is in some way connected to the success of their favorite team.

Funny also how the fans that claim they "demand excellence" and aren't part of the fans base that are willing to "accept mediocrity" are rarely the fans that match their demand of excellent and disdain for mediocrity with the money need back up their high standards.

I agree with you, however, I personally would hate to be encumbered with such a bleak outlook for the foreseeable future.
But, to each their own.

The failures of our football program are not money-related. I can assure you that. This program could have $1 billion and still be mired in mediocrity.

Yeah, keep believing that. Go look and see how much Florida's incoming QB is rumored to have in NIL money coming to him.

That's irrelevant. We have plenty of money. We have fantastic facilities. Money is not what has relegated us to middle-of-the-pack status, at best, for most of our time in the SEC.

Like I said, keep believing that. NIL money absolutely is NOT irrelevant and will do nothing but become more relevant.

As one doubting my own sanityā€¦I am going for nostalgic reasons. Had season tix for 30 years. Took my sons as they grew and they loved the Gamecocks. Moved to TN many years back. As they grew and graduated HS, they went off to college. They wanted to go to SC but out of state tuition was too much for us at the time. They ended up graduating from UT. They love their school and have a soft spot still for SC. We were able to buy my old seat tix for this one game. They wanted to go because their team is finally good, and they wanted to stoke memories from their childhood. plus, getting to take one of my grandsons to WB for the first time and he loves the Gamecocks.

With that saidā€¦..having my sons and first born grandson together at a place I loveā€¦I canā€™t lose.

PS- but I wouldnā€™t mind if my two boys were sad on the drive homešŸ¤£

Ok, well you get a pass haha

Seriously, sounds like you're in a situation where it'll be a great day no matter what happens with the game.

I can't speak for anyone else but I go to games because I enjoy spending the day with friends and people I went to school with that I generally only see on game days. I enjoy being back in the places where I spent some of the best years of my youth and getting something of the feeling of being young again. I enjoy seeing the students and remembering my days going to games as a student and feeling like I was on top of the world, long before the realities of adult life jade your outlook. If we win, my day is much better than if we lose but even when we lose I have a good day and enjoy myself.

NIL money is not university money nor the athletic department's money.

I know that. But if you don't think that coaches now consider how much NIL money is at the booster's disposal when picking recruits, you are dead wrong. Coaches look for any advantage they can, and NIL is a huge part of it now. And if you think there isn't any coordination with the coaches, you are gullible.

If you know any university personnel that are "participating" in lining up those deals, report them...as the university, the booster club, nor either's personnel can not be involved in that.

Policy...

They've loosened the rules up a bit since the proposed state law regulating NILs were first drafted. It makes sense to allow designated staff representatives help the athletes through the process so that the athletes eligibilty isn't affected and they are not taken advantage of.

Not gullible....just aware of some of the pitfalls, to ignore those is simply stupid.

Your flippant "then you should report them" comment shows you are absolutely gullible or just intellectually dishonest. NIL is HUGE in recruiting. And getting the best recruits is HUGE for coaches.

If you know how to properly use it, which you obviously do not. Players, universities, boosters, etc. can get into trouble if not used properly. You call me gullible....obviously from your own ignorance.

And, yes, I just took my first ad hominem attack at you....the first I've taken in a long, long time, but your constant ad hominem attacks towards me and everyone else you disagree with on this board deserves that type of response. .
