to possibly play four Big East teams a year.

I'm taking this as the Big East does not necessary want the service academies to join, and I don't think that the academies want to join the Big East- see Army C-USA debacle.

However, I think this is something that may have some ramifications for the future of college football- especially with the haves and have-nots and mega-conferences. I think that it is possible that you may see conferences rather than teams strike deals to round out each others non-conference schedules.

For example, the SEC and C-USA may strike a deal one day that says that each SEC team has to play one of the C-USA teams.

Thoughts?

Sorry it's not as juicy as who has the better IPF.

So USM has a home-and-home with Ole Miss and MSU every 24 years?

hmm... definitely sounds feasible. However, I think that the Big East could possibly be standing some heat for their football teams, and I think they desperately need some football schools to join. Otherwise, I would not have a single problem with their BCS bid being taken away seeing as you really only have to beat one solid team a year to make it there.

And if you're looking to take someone's BCS bid away, you're looking at the wrong conference. The Big East has been consistently competitive in its BCS bowls, even without Miami, VA Tech & Boston College. On the other hand, the ACC is something like 1-9 in its BCS bowls.

I really hate that the service academies don't play a larger role in college football anymore... I'm not about welfare but I think they would add something.. I know I'm old and patriotic but I like the idea of those making the sacrifice out of high school having some good options.. Staubach..., the Admiral.. etc... the good old days so to speak..

I think it would be good for the game....and the Country...

The way Navy's going, I don't think they'll join a conference in the forseeable future for football. They get a nice, hefty check every other year from their Notre Dame "home" game that they sell to a pro stadium, plus all the TV money from CBS for the rights. Then, every year, they get a nice check from CBS for the Army v Navy TV rights . Those are like two mid-level/upper mid-level bowl game checks a season - and they don't have to share it with anyone like a conference team would. And then they have been in a bowl game every year recently and get a check from that which isn't much but a little and again, its all theirs. They've been selling 20-25K in season tickets the last several years so they make some money on football.

Plus, they already play every other sport in the Patriot League which is comparable schools academic wise to them and pretty competitive in basketball. So, unless something changes, they'll remain an indy. I don't know Army's situation.

I do wish MSU would play them though - would have been nice to play them before locking up with Ga. Tech so we could see the offense.
