As a Celtics fan, I find what happened to the lakers absolutely heartbreaking

The Celtics were my team from the Bill Russell days through the Larry Bird era. I can’t name one of their players today.

Not a fan of either. I'm just glad I don't have to watch lebron james flop all over the floor and fake injuries any more. Comparing him to Jordan is laughable. He's a joke.
Same here. Showtime Lakers were my favorite teams of all time. And I liked the Shaq-Kobe era. But for me, the franchise died the day Dr. Jerry died. His idiot children have made them easy to hate.

The irrational hate some have for LeBron is wild.

The dude is the best player in the world this century and a top-handful player of all time.
Forcefully declaring that he isn't the best player of all time is an odd claim to proudly post.
Like OK, he is the second best player of all time?...you really put him in his place!**

His son has actually shown some promise as the year went on. I mean they picked him at the end of the 2nd round, the vast majority of those players never do a thing so I think it’s reasonable to bet on his genes and pick him there. Teams routinely sell 2nd round picks higher than the one he got drafted with, it’s just not the big deal some make it out to be.

Not surprised that I point out the hate for him is irrational? Why? Its totally unhinged.

basketball perspective - the guy is a generational talent, one of the best of all time, and still playing at an incredibly high level in his 40s.
professional perspective - he is the definition of the American Dream. He went from literal poverty to being a billionaire. He has created countless jobs for others and has been a successful businessman in entertainment.
personal perspective - the guy has been with his wife for over 20 years, he hasnt been a criminal concern, and he has raised kids who are high achieving and out of trouble.
community perspective - he funds programs to help struggling students stay in school, provides over 2000 scholarships for students at University of Akron, helped build a housing complex, helped build community centers, and helped build medical facilities to improve access in an underserved area.

- He is loathed because over the last 20 years he has been periodically outspoken on some racial issues and some rights issues. He has then been continually attacked with the argument that he is a hypocrite if he doesnt also speak out on X and Y racial/rights issues.
- He is loathed because some perceive his influence on the NBA and his teams is too high. While that is a legitimate argument, it seems to be repeated by many who also readily claim 'I havent watched the NBA since Bird and Magic!' so its a pretty hollow argument from them.

Proudly declaring he isnt the best player of all time is just not the dunk(pun!) that many seem to think it is.
And the people who are joyful when he loses because he flops or complains about calls/no-calls is really just hollow justification for their irrational hate since those things are an equal issue across the league. Players, both stars and reserves, flop and complain incessantly.

I dislike how much influence he has had over the franchises and teams he has been part of. But everything else just seems like really weak justification for hating the guy due to political/social comments.

I honestly would like to see him go against Bill Laimbeer and the late 80s/early 90s Pistons before declaring him better than Jordan.

17 off with that. The irrational hate for LeBron on SPS, due to his social views, is well documented. Multiple people who had already posted in this thread have been very vocal about their hate for him and tied it to comments of his on society.

He is loathed because at every turn, he declares himself the greatest of all time. His loathed because he flops more in one game than all of European soccer in a week. He is loathed because he forced his team to take his no talent son. He loathed because He can't carry a team in crunch time, he is anti-clutch. He is loathed because he whines and cries more than a group of 12 year old girls.

But you keep being you. DS needs a new flat screen in the attic.

Dude. Just stop. When Michael Jordan played, basketball was at an all time high in popularity. Ever since LeBron became the face of the NBA, the league has fallen off. Every game is a 3 point shooting contest. Nobody wants to go to the games, nobody watches the games. LeBron is good no doubt. But MJ was a winner. Bron is not.

So Kobe is hated this much since he called himself the GOAT too...right? And not to mention that Kobe's personal life. And then there is the constant ref complaining. So he is absolutely reviled, I am sure.

As for flopping, Harden is easily the leader in dramatic contact reactions. Embiid is infamous for flopping. Joker flops all the time. Chris Paul flopped like a fish on a dock. Luka flops when he doesnt have the ball and isnt even cutting. I could list another 15 that equally flop and dramatically react to contact(and a lack of contact).
Its total trash from all of them. I dont view LeBron as any worse- all of em do it a ton.

Regarding complaining to the refs, literally every player does that- from last on the bench to the superstars. They all do it and on a per minute basis, I bet fringe rotation guys complain equally as often as superstars.

Bronny getting drafted irked the very people who already hated LeBron. Everyone else was like...'meh, its a worthless pick regardless of who is taken there.' and yet, the irrational haters latched onto that draft pick and acted like the Lakers passed on some franchise changing player in order to pick Bronny.
Mountain out of a molehill.

Keep pushing all the irrational justifications while not saying the real reasons.

You think the fact that the NBA peaked in the 90s and hasnt been as popular since then is because of LeBron? I mean, that is how your post reads.
That is absurd.
You mention Jordan and LeBron, and then rant about how the game isnt popular because it has changed to a 3pt shooting contest.

What is the point of your post? I have not claimed LeBron is the greatest of all time and I dont think he is, so hopefully your post isnt an attempt to convince me he isnt the best.

NBA revenue has grown exponentially since 2000, and the pandemic drop has been more than offset. The league is clearly doing something right to make so much money.

I don't care what anybody's politics are as long as they don't force them on me. I don't even know what social issues he is for or against. Any time a celebrity starts talking politics, I change the channel or turn it off. You just keep being you, every village needs its idiot. To quote someone, if they rounded up and put all the village idiots in one village, you would be that village's idiot. You take the contrary view on every topic on here. I bet if they locked you in a padded room, which they need to do, you would argue with yourself.

Good point on the flopping part. He isn’t the only one that does it.
