Why the sour grapes mentioned in the C-L? Not that I give a rats tailend just curious.
The Governors appeared peeved when talking about MSU, often referring to the Bulldogs as "scrappy" and pitcher Ryne Harper went as far to say that "Mississippi State kind of made me mad."</p>

we did with the big lead and the overall pressure we kept on applying even though we had what appeared to be an insurmountable lead. I think that is what agitated them.

If anything, it should be seen as a sign of respect. Our boys were trying to make sure we stayed ahead, meaning they knew they couldn't take AP for granted. At the regional level, you can't take any team for granted for the most part.

and I can't say I would really blame him, but it's the postseason. And I believe the batter was Thigpen, who bunted with 2 outs.

and my team was bitching about a team competing for all 9 innings I think I would take a whip to every damn one of them. Maybe they should realize that's what it takes to win a regional. We have had several games this year where we took our foot off the gas and lost. Many more where we took it off and let a team get back into the game. Screw AP, you play your *** off until the ump tells you the game is over.

....maybe he should have fought back and tried to win, instead of shitting his pants. What a *****.

that makes up their Thunderbird. Which their facial hair suggests they are well-acquainted with. Oh well, hope they enjoy watching us play next weekend. <div>also: just a week ago we got beat by some straight out of Hollywood BS late inning grand slam. Excuse the hell out of us for padding a lead.</div>

Correct! I remember one of our regional games from the '90s when Stanford (I think) was beating us 20-1, and we ripped of a 19-run inning later in the game and still lost with a score of something like 23-20. Anything can happen in the regionals, and you can never have too much insurance.

I'd be mad about any game I lost, or heck, even won where I know I half-assed it. We didn't half-*** it and honestly, neither did AP. They had a bad inning, but they played well the rest of the game. It doesn't make sense to me that they would get mad about another team "trying to run the score up," it should be expected. If this was church league softball or jr. high football, that's one thing, but this is freakin' college baseball. Everyone on this board knows what happened during the La. Tech game a few years ago where we were up 6 runs with 2 outs in the 9th and blew it. If you are on a college baseball team and you are getting mad that a team is keeping the pressure on you, you don't have my sympathy. Find something else to do.

You're basically giving the other team an out. I don't know why they would be upset about that. That's not what I consider running it up.

We lost 20-19 in 1996, the first year we were starting to come back from the first time Ron Polk tried to kill the baseball program.

night. We played to win. They played to win. We won. Besides that one inning, they really didn't allow us to do much else.

but what about all of the throws to first to hold the runners. It's the same thing really.

You very rarely- actually this might be the first for me- hear about a baseball team accusing another one of "running it up". That's because it's really hard to do that in baseball. We could maybe do that to a SWAC team, but they're happy to get the check and play a SEC school- no harm, no foul.

I just don't understand where Austin Peay is coming from on this. They're bitching about a bunt.

In football, if you are up 21 points with 3 minutes to go in the 4th quarter and you are still slinging it and playing aggressively, that MIGHT can be taken as running the score up (although, in college, I still don't feel any sympathy for teams who gripe about it). That kind of thing is ok to get upset about in pee wee, jr. high, church league, or even high school (in some instances), but NOT college or professional athletics. Teams bounce back from blowouts all the time and, although frustrating at the time, teams grow from it. But bitching about bunting late in a game doesn't make sense. Bunting is used all the time by teams late in games to kind of "speed things along" without giving up momentum (which is the important part), while maybe getting an insurance run or two. It happens all the time.

Back in the day, Ricky Joe Redd would have kicked that pitchers *** after for the beanball after the bunt.

While up big late in the game in order to score more runs. It does happen, andpeople do complain about it. Either way, I have no problem with it. If you don't like them doing it just get them out

Someone over there said that the reason AP was so mad at us was because we hate on Rick Stansbury so much. Rick used to coach at AP.

So, it's Coach34's fault.

the proof that our style of play can seriously unnerve an opponent. Sometimes it won't work and will look stupid, but even when it doesn't work, you are putting the defense under stress that may pay off later in the game. A team that plays traditional style of baseball HATES playing against teams that play the way we do.

It's the NCAA playoffs. Nobody at this point in the season is going to risk letting the opponent back in the game just so they don't get their feelings hurt.
