He doesn't seem to have had the same caliber of teams the past couple of years, relatively speaking. How often does that happen?
Saban to retire soon?
I think he did but college football is catching up to him. Good play callers can sometimes help your lack of talent compared to Bama sometimesHe doesn't seem to have had the same caliber of teams the past couple of years, relatively speaking.
He may be looking ahead to retirement too.
Yep. NIL along with the transfer rules are leveling the field. Bama can't just stockpile talent on the bench. Players want to play. And now they can transfer and do it without necessarily losing the booster money. Saban may be thinking about his seventeen beach houses more now.It does seem like the end is near. Notice how Bama and Clemson have regressed a bit since NIL came about? Other teams are getting better.
Now everyone can do it out in the open and not have to rely on the "Bagman".It does seem like the end is near. Notice how Bama and Clemson have regressed a bit since NIL came about? Other teams are getting better.
Didn't Paul Bryant famously recruit some players to Bama just so no one else could get them? He may have been the first to admit it.Yep. NIL along with the transfer rules are leveling the field. I doubt Kirby would go to Bama. He has built another Bama in Athens and it is his alma mater. Georgia has given him everything Bama gives their coach and Georgia has more resources and money and a deeper talent pool in the state than Bama does. I also doubt he wants to be the guy to follow Saban. I don't know why anyone would want to follow Saban at Bama. That fan base is totally insane.I predict that Saban is heading towards retirement and trying to pass the torch to his protege who is now at GA, Kirby. I don’t follow AL closely but the program isn’t the beast as it was in recent past years.
I don’t think any coach who is very successful and well paid at their present job…is necessarily going to give up what they have…just to coach at Alabama. An Alabama grad may be more prone to leave a great job to return to Alabama. When a program starts a decline…elite players are not as eager to come, either. Alabama has lost some of its glitter.I think that Saban is heading towards retirement and trying to pass the torch to his protege who is now at GA, Kirby. So it will be Dabo then.I don’t think any coach who is very successful and well paid at their present job…is necessarily going to give up what they have…just to coach at Alabama. Yep. One of the reasons that Ga Tech left the SEC. Bryant was signing 45 players every class and keeping the best.Didn't Paul Bryant famously recruit some players to Bama just so no one else could get them? He may have been the first to admit it.
Dabo has such a RICH contract with CU…not sure he would be willing to leave the $$$$ and payout to go to a struggling Alabama. Dabo has lost a little of his luster. So it will be Dabo then.![]()
Dabo doesn't have ''Rhino Skin'' and the fan base having ''Great Expectations'' is not working for him in his current job. So, Bama may not be something he desires because, at Clemtech, he can fall back on his past successes. So it will be Dabo then.![]()
Dabo has to know he can win 9-10 games a season and win the conference almost every year in the Almost College Conference every season without really working hard. He'd be a fool to leave for the Bama job.Dabo doesn't have ''Rhino Skin'' and the fan base having ''Great Expectations'' is not working for him in his current job. So, Bama may not be something he desires because, at Clemtech, he can fall back on his past successes.
That is why I had a winking emoji. I expect Dabo to be coy about it for negotiating reasons. Letting Clemson feel they must step up to keep him when Saban leaves. Unfortunately for Dabo if his teams performance gets worse Clemson will call his bluff.Dabo doesn't have ''Rhino Skin'' and the fan base having ''Great Expectations'' is not working for him in his current job. I doubt it's a concern. Bama knows their fan base won't settle for Dabo. They don't want to replace a coach at the end of his career with a coach who is seen as being in decline. A few years ago, it would have been a different story. That is why I had a winking emoji. I expect Dabo to be coy about it for negotiating reasons. Do they want a personality or a coach?I doubt it's a concern. Bama knows their fan base won't settle for Dabo. They don't want to replace a coach at the end of his career with a coach who is seen as being in decline. A few years ago, it would have been a different story.
Besides, Deion has already been tabbed as the heir apparent.
Do they want a personality or a coach?
Whoever follows Saban will need to be one tough cookie!
Even if he finishes the season at 6-6 as ESPN predicts - still has toughest part of the schedule upcoming.I think it would be disappointing to see Bama go from someone like Saban who is comparatively buttoned up to someone like Deion who is all razzle dazzle. He just doesn't seem to fit the Bama mold. I'm also not sure Bama is willing to turn the keys over to someone who has one year of P5 coaching experience. But, for obvious reasons, Deion is the flavor of the month right now.
This is probable. Deion still has a high hill to climb, people forget.Bama would hire me before they would hire Deion.
I saw something on my Facebook feed awhile ago stating that he will be done after this season. It was a link to a sports site, but I got diverted and couldn't find it when I wanted to link it. But I'll say this, his remarks after the loss Saturday night were very benedictory in nature. They certainly seemed to imply that an ending is near. How often does that happen?
Saban to retire soon?
I don't think he will be there next year. Will we force Saban into retirement after a win in a Tuscaloosa next year?
That would at best make the seat hot but nothing worse. I’m also favorable to Bama and Saban, but Carolina has had a history of helping schools/coaches to the door. Lol
Me neither. His groveling and begging to get in the playoff last year had to kill him to do. I think he realizes things have changed and his way of doing things doesn't work as well as it used to. NIL and transfers have made his autocratic style less effective.I don't think he will be there next year.
Possibly true, but time catches up with everybody. Bear Bryant was running on fumes when he left there and he had neither the NIL nor the portal to deal with.Me neither. From College Sports Corner earlier today.BREAKING: Nick Saban plans to retire after the 2023 college football season, according to sources close to the family. The decision was reportedly made recently and he has begun telling close friends.
