As far as Auburn, I don't know what they do or don't do differently in regards to heat. I have no idea if they have uniforms that are designed better for the weather in the South.
I don't expect you know the answer any more than the rest of us but if Auburn IS doing something different, wouldn't it be nice to actually have E K Lance talk to the folks at Auburn and find out? Wouldn't it seem logical to buy uniforms, presuming some makes them, that breath more and allow for wicking heat? They do have the winter coats so I don't understand the need to buy wool uniforms for the band. With today's technology in clothing and materials there is no reason for ANY band to be in wool uniforms today.

She should talk to them if she hasn't already.

And I don't know about the new uniforms that MSU just bought are more suitable for our climate or not, although I would highly suspect that they would be, because I know that this has been an issue between the band and alumni, and just because of that it make it high on the priority list.

Just a minor correction- those aren't winter coats, those are rain coats. As thick as those uniforms are, all you have to do is put on some long underwear and the uniform and you're good. They're actually to protect the uniforms from the water rather than keep us wusses dry.

Having been in the band and wearing a uniform for an incredibly hot game at the Liberty Bowl, I know it can get hot in the uniforms. But, when you're in the stands, you don't have to wear the jacket. And, a better solution than looking like a 7th grade band thrown together at the last minute is to hand out plenty of water, gatorade, etc.

Every other SEC team wears uniforms to every game I've seen. MSU looks silly not wearing uniforms, especially when, as Clay Travis noted, they don't even wear matching khaki shorts. The band is supposed to represent MSU, and it looks bush league when it doesn't wear uniforms.</p>

Apparently you haven't paid that much attention, because the FMB hasn't worn khaki's with the summer uniform since 2006 (last year it wore matching identical maroon shorts and will do so again this year), and plenty of SEC bands and others (such as Navy even) wear summer uniforms.

Wow, one whole season of wearing matching shorts. At least it's a step in the right direction. If they actually have matching outfits, I don't care so much. I still think that real uniforms look better and more traditional, though.

EDIT: Do other SEC band's "summer uniforms" include shorts? Off the top of my head, I can't remember seeing any other SEC teams in shorts.

of them over the PA system. It would sound better and you could actually hear them better in our non accoustical stadium.
