Another spot too where Lemonis played for a run and lost by a run...

1st and 2nd, 0 outs. Lead off coming up, we bunted, gave up a free out.

If we are bunting our lead off guy in that spot. We might need to re-evaluate whose leading off. No way Rowdy or Jake are bunting in that spot... nor are most of the lead off guys in the league.
I'm not impressed with Larry at all.

Nah Mizzou is God awful. Thats the 1st team out. Auburn only has 1 win and thry are pretty bad too. We can get 14 or 15 wins with our home schedule if we can just win 1 here and there at Oxford or Vandy. 14 wins is my low ball right now.
If we win every game we think we should, sure. But I just don't see that happening. Just far too inconsistent and too many holes in the lineup and pitching staff.

Yea Im with ya man. It looks like 11 or 12 wins on average gets you in over the past 4 yrs. We'll see. Gotta handle business at home!

This is beyond embarrassing. It's 2 steps forward, 1 step back with this team all year long.
I think it's the other way around. . . . .
Definition of non Clutch.
Old Mr. Reliable(s) - Jordan & Hines totally tank to end the game . . . . . . totally predictable with Hines (he's awful when it counts), but I certainly expected more from Jordan.

Our OOC SOS is 176. The gov cup is the only game left against an OOC opponent with a winning record and that includes 2-17 Alcorn. And we still lose too many.
Shhhhhhhh… you’re not allowed to complain about that. Many people on the board think our ooc schedule was just fine

Jordan’s got to do better in that situation. But I can’t be too critical of him. Without him, this seasons already over.

I think chances of making the tournament are pretty much over. It's gonna take 15 SEC wins for sure. Just too many bad losses. And it's hard to see this team going on the kind of sustained winning streak it would take.
Didn’t we move up in the rankings after this past weekend?

I feel like what this team is repeatedly showing this season is that we have 10-15 guys that can compete with top flight teams, but the second half of the roster probably wouldn’t start for a bottom half G5 team. This is just not a deep roster

Are we alone in that? No. Are we a team that has the luxury of being able to lose these types of midweek games? Also no, thanks to being incapable of closing out conference games that we should’ve won. You can’t crap both beds, but it’s not surprising that a Lemonis team would find a way to do it.

Bottom line, this team is improved from the last 2 years, meaning that it’s no longer a conference laughing stock. Yay, I guess, but this still isn’t MSU baseball

After last weekend, we fell in the coaches poll, D1 poll, and ELO ranking. Did move up in RPI from 49 to 44 though, but down to 56 after last night.
Ok, coworker told me differently. I’ll trust you.

So a couple of things. I think the truth with this team lies somewhere between the sky is falling and book our rooms in Omaha, but after the last two years that shouldn't be good enough to save this coaching staff's jobs. For me we can't limp into a regional as a weak 2 or 3 seed. We need to be a legit 2 seed or host as a low 1 to bring Lemonis back, but I don't know that hosting is possible without a run. This team is very inconsistent which is usually a sign of a young team, but we really aren't young. All of which is problematic for the future of the program especially if we bring Lemonis back.

The last thing I'd point out because I haven't seen it posted anywhere else here is Johnny Long's press conference after yesterday. Not sure if it embedded correctly. But, his comments are telling about this coaching staff.

I watched and certainly not being arugmenitive. What exactly did he say that struck a cord with you?

They play these midweek games with fear. I think of the later years Cohen teams once he had rebuilt the program. They played with a swagger and a fearlessness. To me it all ties back into Lemonis being more of a hands off coach. Long also mentioned that he feels like with these games that they sleep walk through then wake up late to make a mad dash to try to win it. To me making sure your guys are locked in and not playing scared falls on this coaching staff.

Just my two cents. Thought it was interesting comments from Long, and I certainly could be reading too much into it.

Larry Amani is 10-47 dating back to the start of conference play. He's only got 16 RBI's in 30 games this season basically 1 every other game. You are right, he shouldn't be leading off, but, if he is you got to bunt him based on his putrid .175 average since start of conference play. He was 0-3 yesterday too.

Our record is 2-7 in 1 run games.

Lemonis, IMO, plays too much for a run and it bites us. Big innings win games.

We lead the SEC in sac bunts with 20. The top 4 offenses in the league have 0, 4, 3, and 2.

Obviously big innings are hard to come by when you are giving away free outs.

Nah, i wasnt trying to diminish what you were saying. Was just curious what got you going. I mean I do agree with a lot of what Long said. But one of his quotes was we dont attack mid week games like we do a friday night... well im not sure anyone does.

I think someone else said it and said it right. In the mid week, you have to win with the bottom half of our staff. We cant do that. And you have to win, giving some guys a day off here or there. We cant do that either.

I think its a talent thing, not a mind set thing. I know Johnny Long cant come out and say that.. but i think thats what it is....Its hard to be confident and fearless when they are shelling your pitcher or your 6-7-8-9 spots just simply arent talented enough to be successful.

That is a very telling stat. I wonder how much of it is Lemonis is too stubborn to look at an expected runs chart to realize bunting is a poor percentage play & how much is he just really doesn’t trust some of our hitters. Either one is pretty damning.

I may not know as much as some about baseball, but I'm willing to recognize that you don't win a CWS without good coaching. That said, it's hard and I mean REALLY hard to look at the last 3 years without asking yourself... is there anything at all that Lemonis actually does well?

What's the verdict after 30 games sample size into the season. 19-11 record and 4-5 in conference.

Sucked in OOC games against a pitiful schedule and lost two of three conference series so far. 2nd lowest RPI in the SEC.

After last nights games our RPI has dropped 14 points this week alone. Its now 58th.

We have to continue to win SEC games. Only way our RPI is going to get to a point where we can get in.
