Baseball Question: Who was the best team we faced in the regionals and CWS?

Personally, I take Notre Dame. They took us to the wire at our place. Others were tough like Texas and Vandy but I really felt like they were the toughest to defeat.

Texas because of Madden. We got him twice in Omaha and that’s pretty incredible. A third time, if you count February. He was an excellent pitcher all year long.

All three were very good.

I’d add Campbell to the mix. While they wouldn’t break into the top three in 2021, I wouldn’t be surprised if they made some more noise in the regionals next year.

Not saying that they’d advance to a super regional but the Camels were good and I don’t think they lost many players.

Notre Dame's lineup was as good as any we faced all year but I think Texas was a more complete team. We played 3 times and the rubber match could have very easily gone the other way.

I thought Texas was the most consistent team. They looked to be on the verge but their bullpen ran dry.

Texas was definitely it. They didn’t have bats like Notre Dame. But they had bats that were plenty good enough. And their pitching and defense was elite. Notre Dame had clear deficiencies in those areas. Like us, Texas had no clear weaknesses.

Notre dame was the best hitting club I think we saw all year. It was crazy how well they hit.

Texas was probably more complete all skills included.

Texas was the only team we didn't dominate a single time of the teams we faced multiple times in the postseason. They are very well coached and we were fortunate (not lucky) to beat them.

It definitely wasn't Vandy. The Finals proved that they beyond Rocker and Leiter (and perhaps Bradfield, the CF) they weren't all that great.

If Notre Dame had more pitching depth I would say them, but they were pretty limited after their best 2-3 guys. Their defensive woes were very uncharacteristic for them, they had been a great fielding team all year. It definitely felt like the big stage at Dudy Noble got to them at times. They could really hit, though.

I would agree with Texas being the best all-around team we played in the postseason. They had really strong pitching depth and enough pop in the lineup to scare you. They are probably going to start the year ranked No. 1 when the preaseason polls start coming out in the next month or two.

Since everyone likes Texas I thought I would compare scores of the games

Texas vs State: 3-8, 1-2, 8-5, 3-4 (record Texas 1-3 State) TX total runs 15-19 State total runs
ND vs State: 8-9, 9-1, 7-11 (record ND 1-2 State) ND total runs 24-21 State total runs

I gave ND the edge because they were playing at State. Of course, the most tense game was that Texas game to gain the championship spot.

Now take away that season opener since we're talking about postseason. Then it's 2-1 State with Texas outscoring State 12-11.
