but I don't have a good feeling about it. They are good players but we can do better.

for a dual-sport athlete to get the full amount practice time needed for two sports in college, but if R. Dixon ends up at MSU I sure hope the coaches work out a way for him to play both. If he's good enough to do so, then why the hell not. Dixon will more than likely get drafted in the early to middle rounds, and if it's after the third round then he's said he'll head to MSU. I can't see why a guy with that much natural talent wouldn't be able to play both. I say this because it seems like we've had guys before that have tried to play two sports and it never works out. Could Dixon be an exception?

he's good enough to have an entire scholly of the 11.7. I'd rather have him play nothing but baseball, than give him a full football scholly and him play both, and get the MSU 2 sport curse.

I honestly think that 2 sport curse was more of a Polk/Sherrill thing than anything else. Most rational coaches can work well together. Worked out fine with Notre Dame and Florida.

When did we last lose a high school signee to the draft? And who would it have been.

Honestly, the last I can think of is Derry Hammond way back in 1998......10 years ago.

I know there may have been some since then, I surely hope so, but I can't think of them. If not, does that say something about the calibur of player we are currently recruiting.

I know Ed Easley could have been drafted high out of high school but his signability was a question to scouts. But seriously, I am have a hard time thinking of any others right now.

but the only Hattiesburg guy we ended up with was Lacher. Then Tatum a few years later. Talk about a team full of badasses.

Van Buren was gassing 96 in high school. Lacher threw 91 and was unhittable, and was Hattiesburg's 3RD pitcher.

but i do know that i hope the next coach:

1. isn't afraid to go after the best.
2. is a little more convincing about getting players to come to state instead of signing pro.
3. is a little more convincing about getting players to stay at state after getting drafted as redshirt sophs. and jrs.

I can't remember. I know he struck out the whole West Jones team one game. I'd have hated to play the field for that team.

Van Buren signed with USM but never had any intention of going there. Graduated in 98

Butler and Lacher signed with State in 99.

Also off the team Tatum was on I believe 8 signed D1 baseball scholarships and Chris Heath signed to play football at Tenn.
