Beamer may be ok with Rhames coming back

Based on comments he made earlier this week. Seems his position is that once the criminal is settled he would have to appeal to the University for reinstatement. If he clears all those hurdles, then it's a matter of talking to him to see what he's learned from the situation, if anything. He said guys make mistakes, and this was a big one, but it's a matter of whether or not Rhames has learned anything. I think Beamer is a good judge of character. I'm glad he's not just slamming the door shut. He's gonna let the legal process and the University's process play out, then he'll get involved.

I did read that no matter what, even if Rhames manages to get reinstated, it likely won't happen until sometime in December, so he's likely to play Juco this year.

Sheesh I don’t know. It’s a shame that Rhames mag have thrown this opportunity away. You live and learn.
If USC allows him back then I guess it’s up to Beamer.

Sounded like a year of juco might get him in a position to be considered for readmission if he can stay out of trouble. If I recall, he changed hs because of some behavior issues. Time for Rhames to wise up and be a student-athlete instead of a trouble attacher

Do we want him back? Considering the charges?

Would we be "understanding" if this was a player at another school?

That's a big ole "if". In today's climate, I don't see that happening

A lot of other schools wouldn't have told the 6'4" lockdown corner in line to start (as rare a commodity as there is) that he should go somewhere else. Rhames is getting leeway due to how much smaller a part of the situation he played. Even still, there is no guarantee. And besides, everyone kind of recognizes going down to JUCO and keeping a clean nose is the way you re-earn your opportunity to play D1. The would be starter CB with a weapons charge would be a shoe-in for UGA if not for restrictions for transferring in conference due to legal troubles, they love transfers with weapons charges.

Absolutely. What he did only hurt himself. Nobody was impacted, financially or physically, by what they did. Now, if they found some sort of "hit list" with the weapon, that's a different story. But they didn't, so this shouldn't be that much of a decision as long as the school lets them back in.

Our school tends to be punitive, if past is prelude.

Right. The story as it was reported sounds like they did something galactically stupid but it doesn't seem they had any malicious intent. Sounds like they did something stupid and then, like most people do, panicked and compounded the stupidity. Trying to get rid of the gun looks as suspicious, or more suspicious, than having the gun in the first place.

That said, I like Beamer's approach. Let the legal and University processes play out. Rhames wasn't the one who brought the gun onto campus. That's probably why Rose is the only one to hit the portal so far. His position is the least defensible of the 3. It's arguable Rhames just got caught up in a bad situation in the heat of the moment. Of course, they could always find text messages or other communication showing he was more involved.

If he clears the legal process and makes whatever restitution is necessary and if the University decides to allow him back, I don't know why Beamer wouldn't accept him back on the team, pending a thorough character evaluation.

Exactly. Just sucks it takes so damn long for the U to do anything.

Well, at this point, I think it's pending the legal process. From what I read, that's the rate-determining factor.
Man, it would be really nice if we were a school known for it's law program that might be able to help this along.
