Since you have to use their equipment I am sure they have limited flight balls that are programmed so you get "real" distances and data. Like you I just don't see the appeal. Especially for the cost. If I was going to spend between $80 and $185 on golf it wouldn't be for driving range time.I don't see why this would be fun and something I want to spend my money on? If I consistently drive the ball 200-250 yards, I am not even landing on the field which I estimate to be 130 yards of grass plus the setback for where the 2 is set up maybe 50 yds. My slice would put it in the East side stands. I see some people driving it out of the stadium. Are they only allowing irons? Do they use special balls that don't go as far? Granted I never been to a top golf but I am curious.

There are sensors in the balls and targets. At the permanent Top Golf locations there is a net all around the field, and there are sensors along the bottom towards the center of the far end. The points can vary depending on how close you are to the center but this long drive target is one of the higher scored ones, depending on which version scoring you've selected. There are a few different "game" options with different scoring models, to appeal to players of different skills. The main one rewards for both accuracy and distance, more points for the far targets and more points if you're closer to the center of each target. The beginner game removes the distance factor and just gives points by how close you are to the center, which helps level the field a bit. I don't know if it will be the same with this temporary installation since the sensor setup and screens to choose which game to play are clearly different. I'm not a golfer, but find Top Golf fun once in a while, which is probably exactly what they are targeting.I don't see why this would be fun and something I want to spend my money on?
