Berge looked great against AA Cam Amine at 165 and won! Can people quit posting about how we need him at 157? Cael and Brady know better than the rest of us and thats why he is our new 165lber. He can definitely be a potential AA for PS at 165. We can win as a team NCAAs with Brady at 165 and possibly no one qualifying at 157. Cael has it under control...Go Brady!!!

We’ll see in Iowa next week. He does look comfortable but wasn’t Amine out for six weeks before last night? Berge is very happy with a one take down bout.

Berge seems to move better but still used his head late in the match. Very good match.

Byers said last night, and I wish I wrote the exact quote down, but something to the effect that Berge is really comfortable at 165. Can't see him dropping down at this point.

What is the story with Joe Lee at 157? Wasn't he very highly recruited out of Mater Dei?

It’s actually a shame that Verk transferred because he would have owned 57. I don’t blame Verk because he wanted a chance to truly be the guy somewhere, but amazing the way the chips have fallen, he likely would’ve been the undisputed guy. Keep an eye on him at NCAAs this year, and we’ll eat our hearts out if/when he scores points.

Something kept Joe out early in the year. He got a shot, and he didn’t show anything. Never know, like Bearclaw, Joe may still get another shot.

I wonder about Matt. He knocked off Top 10 ranked Julian Ramirez earlier this year. Since then, his open results have been average. But Julian beat Shane Griffith. Using transitive property, Matt can be national champion 😀

Ramirez and Griffith wrestle at 165.

I wonder if after being out of school for a year, takes a ‘real job’ as a coach and learns that more was expected of him as a coach compared to a college wrestler, he’s reevaluated his abilities and opportunities and realizes what his priorities are. He’s had a great HS career. Some of the best coaches in the world - and connects with a college coach who grants him a ‘release’ and encourages him to chase his dream. To me, he just looks like he’s Ready.

Berge sure looks good at 165-if he has to cut a lot of weight to get to 157-can not imagine that would be pleasant as he does not look like he has an ounce of fat!

True test will come next week against Iowa. Guess we can say that about the whole team. Carver will be sold out. Don’t understand why we always wrestle them away or majority of the time. That’s BS. We all know Brands is behind it since he hates coming to rec hall.

Respectfully disagree. Not true for the whole team. Michigan is definitely better than the current Iowa team at many weights: 125, 184, 285 and even 197 is basically a toss up, IMO.

Come On Man......it is the BsTen. We wrestle Iowa at Carver most of the time for the same reason we get one home Saturday basketball game.....and ours is when the students are not on campus.

I checked Wrestlestat to confirm my memory of seasons Berge has wrestled. I‘m pretty sure he could wrestle next season as well if he wants. He only wrestled 2 bouts in 2020 but it was 1 in each semester so that may count. If not, I think he could have 2 more seasons of eligibility.

That’s correct but I believe he plans on going back to coaching after this semester unless he changes his mind. Be great to get his younger brother who is ranked #1 at 184 in the country as a HS Sr. He’s a verbal to where Brady coaches. NDS I believe.

Ok.(sorry for the technical difficulties), .here is what i wanted to say.... Berge hasn't wrestled in 10 months, 1 week of practice with the team and beats Amine who missed 6 weeks. Berge seems like the one at a disadvantage, not Amine.. Cody's post match interview intimated Berge was not happy with his performance, but played it more conservative for a win for the team, because he knew how important it was to the team.. I think Berge is totally happy at this weight and will continue to be more aggressive as he gets more matches in this year. I dont believe Berge is not happy with 1 TD wins

That is what has been stated thus far.
as a hypothetical, let’s say he finishes 3rd or 4th and he lost his seminal by 1 by giving up a TD in last 10 seconds. Do you think he would walk away satisfied? I don’t. I think that would be serious motivation to come back for another season - a full one.
it’s a totally what if scenario at this point. Just pointing out conditions exist for that path to be followed.

Brady for one more year...Never say never. A lot happened this year that we never anticipated.
