Seriously WTF happened to Hines this year? Third of way through season, one HR, and his ‘double’ earlier in year was a routine fly ball they misplayed. His OPS is .300 points lower than normal.
Geautrou coached him up.

I know it’s easy to get mad at defense, but we faced 10 pitchers tonight and only scored on 1 of them. Our lineup ends at DJ currently. Everyone not named Larry, Mershon or Jordan was 4-21. Take Hijsak out and it’s 2-17 with 0 XBH.

It’s more expensive to keep a coach a year too long than to fire him when it’s time. Jimbo Fisher & Calipari excluded.
You may well be correct, but the ones who would have had to actually foot the bill didn’t see it that way, and were likely looking at it through a lens that didn’t only involve MSU baseball. Hard to know what the right or wrong call was there without knowing the opportunity cost of firing him.

Not true. Selmon was told it was his call.

Which is tantamount to saying “go ahead and give him another year” when you’re telling that to an AD who’s been on the job for 3 months and its a coach 2 years removed from a natty in a non-revenue sport.

Selmon doesn’t get told that if there is a unanimous consensus on making a move. If some boosters wanted Lemonis gone and some didn’t, that’s the only thing that he could be told. There was no consensus largely because of the staff buyout. If the buyout was $0 instead of around $4 ~ $5 million, Selmon would have been told exactly what to do and when to do it….just as Stricklin was with Rick Ray and Cohen was with Moorhead.

Doesn’t matter. It’s a failure on everyone’s part that had a say to not do the obvious bc a lot of people want to cling to the idea lemonis had something to do with our Natty. It was always less about money and more about trying to make us e feel good about that b

So our Head Coach got out coached by an assistant coach? My understanding their Head Coach got thrown out of the game in the 4th inning. Was it an assistant coach that thrown out? Help me wrap my head around this.

How long after you hire a guy to run a $100,000,000 athletic dept do you have to wait for him to actually start doing his job? Just another Keenum 17-up hire.

I agree in principle with some of this, but its just not that simple. First off, new hire is going to be a total unknown. Secondly, its pretty silly to say the guy who brought Will Bednar here singlehandedly had nothing to do with our natty. He’s certainly fallen off and lost his grip on the culture and pulse of the roster, but he absolutely did have a good bit to do with the title.

But the biggest fact of the matter - We’re just not a school that can shıt out $5 million for a buyout on a couple of friggen baseball coaches. Nobody is, really. That money has to come from some place.

Just some possible examples to ponder:

- Fire Lemonis and hire ?????, or sign Josh Hubbard?

- Fire Lemonis and hire ?????, or raise / extend Jans?

- Fire Lemonis and hire ????, or sign three 4* football recruits to NIL deals?

- Fire Lemonis and hire ????, or pay to keep Dakota Jordan and Hunter Hines at MSU?

- Fire Lemonis and hire ????, or do 3 of 4 or maybe even all 4 of the above?

Those are real choices that have to be made by real people who all have 7 or 8 figure bank accounts. The decisions don’t get made lightly, and definitely didn't get made just because people were all in their feels about something that happened 2 years ago.

Its more like a $60,000,000 athletic department + a $50,000,000 welfare check from the SEC network, with the donors that are almost exclusively responsible for 30-40% of that $60,000,000 of real revenue every year being the ones that are really making the big decisions.

I'll say again. Its not the coaching. Its the talent.

We are starting a LFer and hitting him 5th that:
A) Shouldnt be starting or
B) If he does start should hit 7-8-9 and be platooned

Its like Chance is this years Luke Hancock-- who should have never started 4 years.

Our transfer 3b who everyone thought was a great get in the portal is a 220 hitter with 1 extra base hit. Someone said Cupp is a stud, maybe he will be, but he'll be below average this season. And the catching position is just plain comically bad.

You cant play Chance, Cupp, the Catcher, and expect to be any good offensively. Throw in the fact our portal stud is a bust.. and you get what you get....

When Jordan starts seeing real off-speed stuff and 95 mph fast balls. He'll pile up the K's and the offense will plummet.

This thread makes me hopeful that we can have at least 1,000 more discussions about how Lemonis should have been fired earlier. Let's keep doing it. It's incredibly original and intelligent to rehash something that will never ever be different than it is right now.
