No, because he was buddies with Salmon. That’s not a risk. That’s hiring your buddy.

The most MSU thing to do would be to invest millions in a non revenue sport to fire that coach. People need to understand baseball is no longer a priority here. You don’t spend millions on a sport that is zero relevance in the grand scheme of things. It’s football and basketball. We have to start treating those with priority and thank god we have an AD who puts those first
I like watching State win regardless of the sport. I'll take winning baseball over losing football if that's the choice especially since we're likely near the bottom of the SEC in NIL for football.

Honest question. Why can’t a baseball coach learn to get better? He’s a millionaire, so he could hire his own coach to coach him. Send his game tape to consultants and ask for feedback. Attend seminars, read books, listen to assistants, do one on one feedback sessions with players etc. Why the heck can’t people learn?

Lemme guess you don’t give to SEF and think we are poor. Typical sixpack poster. Baseball means zero. Only like 30 schools give a 17 about baseball and less than have decent attendance. It’s no longer a priority

How the hell do you know that unless you are one of them or know them. If either of those is the case expose yourself as to who you are or otherwise such the **** up like you know. This is the second time you came on here with butt hurt on the subject. On the other hand, saying the Chief of Operations and Senior Associate AD barely knows the OC of the football teams seems a little weak.

I know you rankin county folks have some narrative that they don’t believe in administration..
I am waiting on the administration to show. You keep saying I am a baseball first guy. I am not. I have never owned or purchased a season baseball ticket. I go to on maybe two games a season. I am football first guy. I have been a season ticket holder for 15 years. I am invested in the program and currently I am not happy, I did not buy season tickets this season. I will see where they are later if I am going to donate any more money. A two-win season is unacceptable. The defense was horrible and did not improve. I might have been a little happier and bought season tickets if they had made some changes to the defensive coaching staff. I hope I regret not buying tickets. I hope they go out and win big. I hope Selmon turns the program all around. I don't care who gets it done. I just want it done.

If we continue to struggle this year he needs to be fired. How can we let him stay for another year if we don’t make the tourney?
I don't think it really matters. Doesn't matter if we're serious. Doesn't matter whether lemon stays or goes.

One of the following are true:
1. We don't have the funds to compete and it's not really that close.
or...
2. We have zero competence when it comes to spending those funds to acquire difference makers.

We suck at most sports. It's been a downward trend for a while that has accelerated since NIL has become open carry. We had a little upward blip with Leach and have had a little upward blip with Jan's but neither of them have really threatened the upper SEC teams.

... to fire Lemonis. To much tied up in the current staff and nil for all sports to afford it.

Thursday hour 1, 32m30s.

I have no idea. But it wouldn't surprise me if State did keep lemon after this year. Especially if he can find north of 5 sec wins.

Also he mentions 10million in nil for football but later says 7 million in nil for football last year. So I assume we will have 10 million In this years team??! Good grief. That's a lot of money but way off of every other sec school.

Which it is just ridiculous it takes that much to buy a team.

I can't blame alums if they say "no more" if asked for a buyout for Lemonis.
No, I asked the question- will MSU spend the Money? What is the university willing to invest? Are they willing to go out and fundraise their *** off (I doubt it)? That actually takes planning, work, travel, focus & hustle.

Are they willing to spend several million by firing Lemonis & staff while adding a sitting HC that would cost well over a $1 million plus asst coaches & support staff?

Do you give Parker a shot starting today & see what he can do the next 6-7 weeks?

So the quesion is: How much is the administration & University willing to invest in baseball right now considering the landscape of college athletics?

Thsnks for the clarification. Question, why would it cost several million to fire Lemonis? Looks like his contract runs out June 2026 & I think Parker was on a 2-year deal (and I’d be ok not firing him anyway). That’s about as cheap as you’ll ever be able to fire a coach.

I stopped giving as soon as BI basically went away. I hate the new setup and have never cared for the BC and it's BS. Nobody is going to strong arm me for my donation with a seat watching terrible athletics, with coaches learning on the job. I was all in but all in wasn't enough obviously.

I did write "can't afford". you did say State could "afford" to fire the baseball staff.

semantics l know but...

Can NOT afford is my impression of the true position of the University once you break down how much it cost to fire the current staff and hire a new staff AND (as you mention) you are at least $3 million a year behind your rival (and 14 other sec schools) in football NIL.

Anyways, get insight. Interesting conversation. I enjoy your show.

As for the Cohen hire, if your family working at MSU really knew anything at all they'd know Cohen was hired to try to appease Mullen. So for the theme of this ridiculous thread that was a huge risk taken to try to appease and at the request of our most successful football coach in history. Obviously didn't work out long term but at the time Cohen was the only one Mullen said he wanted to deal with.
So we hired the baseball coach with no front office experience to appease the football coach who had just hired Jimmy Sexton as an agent and had spent the previous six seasons interviewing for other head coaching positions? That has to be one of the most Mississippi State things we have ever done.
