Heard from a guy who heard from a guy who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night that we’re heading to the Liberty Bowl. Opponent to be named later.

Things could still change based on results of remaining games but it sounds like Memphis is our likely destination.

The persistent rumor I’ve heard is that the Liberty Bowl really wants State vs Texas Tech due to the Leach factor. Tech’s interim coach is one of Leach’s former QB’s, as well.

This is probably the most reasonable option for the majority of the fan base to be able to attend.

Texas Bowl on a Tuesday the 4th just sucks... most folks are back at work or kids back in school at that time. Outside of a bowl game scheduled right around Christmas day, the timing for the Texas Bowl is the worst.

They hired a coach if I'm not mistaken and their interim coach went to ULL as head coach if I'm not mistaken. But I would still like to watch us play TT. There are still plenty of tie ins there plus it might help us recruit Texas. If we win that is. I have seen enough Iowa and Kansas teams for a few years.

While a second trip to Memphis this season seems pretty blah, I guess it makes sense. Our bowl attendance has historically been pretty bad when we lose the Egg Bowl so at least with a Liberty Bowl trip we will have a few more folks go just because of the close proximity.

Sonny Cumbie, the interim coach and one of Leach’s former QB’s, was hired as La Tech head coach, but Texas Tech announced he will stay and coach them in the bowl game.

You would think the casinos would get together on the coast and come up with a bowl game of their own. The casinos would be packed!

Where would you play it though? Mobile or New Orleans? MGM not big enough for a college football game.

Meh, they invested in baseball. They could try to get NCAA basketball in the Coast Coliseum I suppose.

Bowl games are overrated anyway.

Good point about Mobile, they've had a bowl game there for years and never seen much benefit from it, and you know those folks are always driving over to the casinos.

Bottom line, if it's not a well-known bowl, there's really no point in having one.

Ive said this before, but college baseball tournament in MGM Park early in season. Especially if you have State, USM and/or UM participating would be fun.

Now that’s a good idea. Big tournament put on by MGM and have state usm or ole miss and then a few other teams that are good from around the country. That matchup with tech had a great turnout for midweek before Covid canceled the season in 2020.

Would not mind that matchup. We are scheduled to play Texas Tech in 2028, but with the constant coach carousel in football, no telling if Leach will still be the coach at MSU at age 68.

Never liked going to games at the Liberty Bowl, but at least its got some history and second-tier prestige

and isn't simply called the Auto-Zone Bowl... yet.

They know we played there this season, right?

And left with a really sour taste after playing there...

Just hope it’s someone we haven’t played or haven’t played in a while. It’s always Boring if they match you against someone you played in the last few years. Iowa state Texas tech purdue all would be interesting. Kansas state not so much.

Buddy of mine works for the Liberty Bowl, Cohen and the Liberty Bowl committee have been speaking this week and the matchup looks to be with TT.

I don't know where the bowls fall in the pecking order, but I'd rather go the B'ham and Memphis (certainly neither location is a tourist destination for a MSU fan). Obviously Music City would be choice 1, but I'm assuming that is not a possibility?
