the most expensive bowl game in the history of college sports, big ouch

its funny, the playoffs have changed the appeal of the NY6 bowls, which was a reward for a big time season in the past...

Yeah, I didn’t think about it, but there’s basically no more NY6. They’re all part of the playoffs now. So, you’re either in the playoffs or you’re in the 2nd or 3rd tier bowls.

At a minimum, the fans of the teams playing in them do. Having Ole Miss fans watch their dream roster and dream season end in a 17ing trip to Memphis against Kansas State almost makes up for how sнitty our season went.
It'll be interesting to see how many Mississippi fans bother to make the trip up to Memphis for this game. I bet not a lot. Actually, my first reaction when I saw the original post was, "Oh wow, I forgot all about the bowl games." I doubt they all go away because ESPN needs and wants cheap programming for late December. But they'll be even more irrelevant than ever going forward.

And that will likely bring attendance and television viewership down.

They may not even have enough guys on the roster to make the trip. I am kidding a little, but they will have massive opt out.

Does anyone even care about bowl games any more?
After the past two seasons, I will never make light of or take a bowl game for granted again. I wish we were in a position to be disappointed by the Liberty Bowl, instead of being disappointed that we do not appear to be firing any staff after the worst season since Ronald Reagan was in the White House....

It is where the risk/reward equation for fans hits the road at the end of the season. Emptied our pockets and our savings account FOR THIS????

Bowl selection will be interesting in the 12-team CFP era. Bowls are limited in which teams they can choose from, but given the choice, they want a team that is excited to be there, not necessarily the best team. For example, which team would you want right now as a bowl? 7-5 Florida? Or 9-3 Ole Miss?

Kiffin salary + NIL spending =~ $25,000,000 . Liberty Bowl payout per team =~ $2,350,000

Not only have to go to Memphis and play K-State.....but to go to Memphis to get beat by K-State!
Not one person from Kiffin to the ball boy will want to play that game.
K-State by 2 TD's!
That would be worth that 25 million worth of those Rebel tears!

I'll watch them for now. It's still college football. I'm not sure how long that will last honestly. If I stop watching them it will be because I stopped watching the sport altogether. If something isn't done about unlimited free agency EVERY year I will eventually stop watching.

I hadn't thought about it but I probably won't watch anything but the playoffs. Sad

I submit to you that 2002 was about as bad as this season.

This, if it happens, is basically like us going 2-10. No improvement, no hope left. Same **** as last year.
