Bowl Uniforms in honor of Coach Leach

Did we not wear an all black uniform last year with STATE across the front? I’m sure they didn’t throw them away.

I think it was 2019. Maybe 2018, definitely when Nick Fitz was qb. Sonny Montgomery game. They weren’t all black, they had some maroon I think, but the block STATE wordmark was from that game.

Yep, with the Mississippi helmets. I’d begun to think that I’d imagined those jerseys. I bet those uniforms no longer exist.

A lot of those helmets (not sure about the tops) were auctioned off after the game started at $2500 each

We have had 5 (maybe more) active players die in my lifetime. Keffer McGee dying was a gut punch.

For the following games/year, we wore the maroon and white and added a patch and/or sticker to honor the deceased. That is all.

They should pull off the helmet and develop a special one to give his family. It would be nice, if we can make the helmets and jerseys, we could sell them after the game to create some money to donate to charity or create one in his name

Black, white, maroon, I don’t care, whatever makes the guys who have to wear the jerseys happy. I just want to see them run the Fighting Illini through.

Part of me thinks if we wear these uniforms, we damn well better win the game. We can’t sh17 the bed as pirates or it’ll never be lived down.

But we have to do something significant to honor Leach. If we can’t make championships, at least we can give ourselves a chance to win with private uniforms on. The ultimate honor to Leach. It’s ballsy and we almost have to do it.

It is so obvious this should be done. This is just like when they realized in 2021 the Black Baseball unis needed to go. There is no other option.
