Just read that we hadn't had a football recruit from NC since the 2021 class. We had 3 each in 2019, when Mack returned, and 2020. Then 1 in 2021 and nothing since.

Going back to 2010, we had multiple NC recruits in most classes. 3 recruiting classes in a row with no players from NC is pretty surprising. Currently have 2 committed for the '25 class if they stick.

Beamer has really focused on the DMV area, so maybe we just aren't putting as much into recruiting NC.

I wonder which recruiters are assigned NC?

Good question. I'd be curious know if there's just a decreased emphasis on NC, though we have offered a bunch from there. Haven't done a deep dive to see how many players we offered ended up at UNC, but seems odd that Mack came back in 2019 and our recruiting there dried up shortly thereafter.

Seems to me that NC recruits that come to SC have a much higher success rate vs other surrounding states.

The question is why?
Mack is no spring chicken and it's the ACC. Chizik is not that well-liked.
It is strange because we've had some excellent recruits from NC who went on to the NFL.

We have offered recruits from there, but Beamer really seems to have focused on the DMV. Wonder if we just aren't recruiting NC that hard? Maybe we weren't seeing results so we shifted resources elsewhere?

Could be. Could be Mack is just making it that hard on us.

This is another instance where I wish NIL was public knowledge. One question is always just as simple as if we're being outbid.

Makes it difficult when NC has dried up and Kirby is cleaning up across the border in GA.

It's also true that we are coming off a losing season. Can't ignore that we didn't qualify for a bowl.
Very true.

Let's face it, going to a bowl is a very easy thing to do. With 43 bowl games, that's 86 teams that go bowling. There are 134 FBS teams, which means 64% of FBS teams go to a bowl. It takes some effort to be in the bottom 36%. Used to be you could have a pretty good season and not make a bowl.

Now, getting a bowl is such an easy thing to do, not making one is an exercise in humiliation. If you're not making bowl games, there's very little you can sell to a recruit.

I just kind of deflated, seeing the season pass before my eyes on those plays.

I just kept thinking of it being Rattler's last season.
Mack has always been a great recruiter, more so than coach (although he did win a national championship). If he was available when Muschamp got fired, what are the chances Tanner would have hired him? Great, I think.

NC is LOADED....LOADED with talent. The state splits their talent with 8 Division 1 football teams PLUS everybody in the country who comes to get the top talent. I have said it on here for over 20 years....our biggest miss in recruiting is the state of NC. The big talent area of the Charlotte "diamond" is an hour and 15 to an hour and 40 minutes away from Columbia. Easy ride south for those boys. SOS and our best teams (ever) and those individual recruiting classes had 2-3 NC kids in each of them. It's a huge miss. I knew we were in further trouble when I heard SB talk about the "DMV" area. SMDH. We will just skip over much better football and football players in NC and southern to mid VA and get up to the DC "hotbed" of football talent. Adios mios.

It may be blaspheme with our fanbase, but I would have liked to see him here.

I would not expect lofty heights, but I think he would at least be decent, and hire good coordinators.

If USC had had a defense last year, USC would not have lost the Fla game and would have been bowl eligible which is why the DC should have been fired.

Tanner could have hired Mack instead of that Fla loser. Mack indicated he was interested but our DC for some reason thought a coach who couldn't win at Fla could win at USC.
