If you have not seen the podcast with Matt McGloin and Tom Hannifin talking to Brandon Noble, I recommend it. Brandon talks a lot about the play at Penn State, and he is pretty direct about what he likes and does not like. Worth the listen.

WOW! How in God's name have i not listened to these podcasts before? Terrific insights from Brandon....however i am PSU class of 1980 so my feelings are more inline with what he said. He stated exactly how many of us feel about CJF....his perceived approach to physical vs finesse football. And....Brandon is absolutely correct about the OL...you need tough kids with heart and love for PSU....not a recruit you take because of measurables. If you have not seen the podcast with Matt McGloin and Tom Hannifin talking to Brandon Noble, I recommend it. Brandon is awesome, couldn't agree with him more on pretty much every topic (NIL, OL, Sandy, tradition). Love his candor, and you can tell he was trying to hold back a little.
Played hoops with him behind Mifflin my freshman year. Shocked the hell out of all of us playing by dunking easily in-game.
Great Synopsis Mrdibbs! Who is this Italian character Joe, Brandon speaks of?!? (Brandon speaks earlier that he doesn't care what he says because he's far removed from the program now). The anecdote at the end of the podcast where he runs into Joe and Joe proceeded to pull him by the ear and asks Brandon if he can't afford a razor now that he's in the NFL.Thank you, nohow, for linking the podcast.
I think that Brandon Noble is spot on about Penn State Football's identity crisis. (Crisis is my word, not his).
I like James Franklin as a program administrator and maybe as a recruiter (need more big mean guys), but something is lacking.
The traditional PSU Football identity was hard nosed, tough, smart, hard hitting. Rarely were they ever dominated physically.
Brandon Noble articulates this very well and he is not afraid of calling things the way he sees them within the program.
Must watch the link.
Thanks for posting this . Great insight , and Brandon, who I always liked tells it like it is . I love people like that .If you have not seen the podcast with Matt McGloin and Tom Hannifin talking to Brandon Noble, I recommend it. I wonder what Noble's take on Obrien might be ?I am not Brandon Noble. Since he and I agree 100%, and I have said the same things on these forums, I want to get that said.
The substance of his comments is damning on the state of the program:
1. Since “James” has arrived tradition and acknowledgement of past teams has suffered greatly.
2. During the Sandy Barber era alumni and others around the program were fearful to express any criticism. (Thank you Ms. Pants Suit. - my input).
3. The team has lost the Penn State identity since James arrived. Not for the good. Toughness has been replaced by softness. The OL in particular has been badly recruited and developed. Other teams smash us in the mouth and winning on 3rd and 1 has been lost. The guys we get for the OL are tall and have long arms, but they give up leverage and get pushed around.
4. He pointed out James has a couple years to correct things, before his contract payout is reasonable. Some praise huh? (Thanks to the poor decision making of Ms Pants Suit - my input)
5. Asked about AD Kraft, Noble knows and trusts him. It was noted if Matt Ruhl does not make it at Carolina his Temple connection with Kraft might impact things when James buyout is reasonable.
6. He notes at the end that there have been too many excuses used to defend the direction of things.
7. 7 or 8 wins will not be a success if it means blowouts in one or two games and losses in others to teams Penn State should beat. A continued lack of toughness is unacceptable.
My observation- Those who take every chance they can to defend James will cringe listening to this and the reaction of Matt McGloin (MM agrees with Noble)
Its all good for the CJF fan boys, they'll say "easy for noble to say sitting on this lazy boy" and " isn't fun to listen to people who know nothing about football pontificate about coaching football." It is funny that what is so obvious to most is precisely what this football player/ coach says.I am not Brandon Noble. Since he and I agree 100%, and I have said the same things on these forums, I want to get that said.
