How much longer is the NFL and the players union going to let NFL rookies, especially the top 5 picks command upwards of 30 million guaranteed in contracts, yet 8 year veterans can't get more than a two year deal.
The best Defensive player in Free Agency this year was Asante Samuel or Lance Briggs, and their guaranteed money will be less than the guaranteed money of the number 1 pick if the agent for Jake Long gets close to what Russell got last year.
Im buying by the way, the way the salary cap is structured and how the draft is supposed to help the worst teams it really keeps the bad teams in salary cap problems, and there is no trade value for the number 1 pick. You couldn't trade the 1 pick straight up for the 6th pick in this year's draft since the value in the player from 1-6 is basically the same.
If I was the Dolphins I would let my time run and let the other teams draft whoever they want, and have five names of players that I want as my guy, and once there was two left, I would have my cards ready to be brought up to the podium and once the other name was selected I would turn my card in and whatever selection he was at that point, I would pay him that money.
Its not like the Dolphins are one player away from winning anything.
