BUY/SELL: OM's Pete Boone shenanigans are making our experience with LT look like a minor...

hiccup. I'm buying. Maybe I'm awesome at blocking out bad memories, but I don't ever remember portions of our fan base going to lengths publicly such as publishing lengthy anti-Boone letters, starting a myriad of internet campaigns, former high-profile players getting involved, ect.

I felt like we bitched about LT for years (more than the current Anti-Boone stuff) but it was only moderately bitching compared to OM right now. We never reached the fanatacism that apparently many OM fans have reached. I am actually pretty astounded that they bypassed the "www.FirePeteBoone.com" stage of bitching (maybe that isn't classy enough).

I have a few personal theories
:
1) We really did have the comically pathetic "aw'shucks, I'm just happy to be here" fanbase that is commonly joked about. We didn't really put any pressure on LT and the Athletic Department until people who grew up and/or were accustomed to the "golden years" under the KANG became part alumni/booster fanbase.

2) Maybe it goes along the same lines as my aunts and uncles getting on facebook in the past couple of years and then posting ridiculously embarassing **** on my profile. Meaning that, the internet is so new and flashly to many new users (mainly of the older age group) that they don't realize how public of a domain it (the internet) really is. Just a theory since most of this OM shitstorm is internet based, and our LT experience predated my grandmother getting on facebook.

3) *My persona fave* - When **** started getting really bad, we took care of 17ing business with Ninja-like precision (pun intended).

Why did LT step down? What finally made him?

but I think they had to have something damning because he was in so tight with the cigar boys. They found out that he did something wrong with money- I can't remember the specific details- but once they had that, he was toast.

LT at least had the sense to know when to retire and did so, thankfully. As craptastic as LT was we at least went to Atlanta, Omaha, and a Final Four. We brought in a young, energetic AD that made 2 good hires that have scared the living crap out of UM fans. Even though Ninja is gone, Grasshopper is keeping up the pressure and using an aggressive PR campain to rub UMs nose in it. And we've done all this with less money, smaller fanbase(according to them) worse facilities(again according to them) and contrary to their superiority complex of beliefs. Look at Boone's hires,Cutcliff-fired, Orgeron-fired, Nutt-will be fired, Kennedy-on the hot seat, Bianco- the only good hire he's made but feeling the heat.Boone makes LT look like a 17ing genius.

but appointing him "ADEmeritus" or some ******** like that. He still has an office in the Academic building. But as far as the details of the whole thing, it did have something to do with money. <div>
</div><div>*EDIT- He also still works closely with the department, I think more as a figurehead for MSU with the SEC and NCAA. He still travels with the football and basketball team whenever it's convenient (he went to Portland a few years ago). He basically does everything he did except be AD (which he didn't do during his latter years, anyway).</div>

I wouldn't go that far. I could be wrong...it's your team, but I thought LT was pretty much forced into retirement. Basically told to ride off into the sunset or we're firing your ***.

Lonnie got his cronies on the MSU Foundation Board, many of whom incestuously also served as trustees of the Bulldog Foundation, to authorize transfers of funds from the non-athletics MSU Foundation to the Bulldog Foundation to cover the buyouts for Jackie and staff and to cover some of crxxms' salary. In so doing, he put the MSU Foundation in jeopardy of losing its 501c3 status.

I dont think, or at least I don't remember, anyone bitching about LT until after the turn of the Millenium (definitely none in the mid-late 90's). The Croom hire and subsequent coaching tenure, Polk 2.0 (besides the magical 07 CWS run), his desire for the junction to be an athletic building instead of the tailgate area, etc.

In that same period of time, Boone experienced the Eli years, 2 Cotton bowls (others?), 2-3(?) Super Regionals, an apparent (albeit brief) upswing in basketball, the vaunted IPF, a basketball facility (right?), new baseball stadium, ect. Of course, I'm only listing accomplishments here for Boone, whereas I only listed negatives for LT earlier.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of people didn't recognize how ****** a job Lonnie Tinkle was doing because of the tendency to compare MSU toOle Miss. Boone and LT both had the good fortune of falling *** backwards into some successful seasons. Boone's problem is that now that MSU has a competent AD, MSU is doing things that other schools have been doing for years, and it's making it apparent how incompetent Boone is. Had UM had somebody competent, I'd like to think that Tinkle would have been shown the door several years earlier.

I will also say Boone's own-goals seem to be more understandable than Lonnie Tinkle's. The Colonel Reb/mascot situation wasn't a no brainer, even if he mishandled it. Cutcliff put him in a catch-22, continue to let Cutcliff not recruit and lose, and then hope to hire a good coach, or go ahead and fire Cutcliff but making it likely that no decent coach would view UM as a good job. He'd haveto have been stupid not to hireNutt, but now it looks like Nutt can't handle UM's program. Andy Kennedy looked like agood hire at first, who then preceeded to suck at coaching and get arrested.
