I think his fate will be sealed, but I just don't see him getting canned mid-season.

In his 11th season, no... he may get canned but, it will be sort of kept behind closed doors.
I can see that he would do a mid to late season step down, finishing out the season.
Sort of like the Kang.

Report is the Ga./Om game is for the rights to Gus Malzahn, but I can't figure if the winner or the loser gets him.

They're not going to fire him mid-season. But if he loses to the Bears, it's going to be very hard for him not to be fired at the end of the season.

No need to keep a coach around if he is going to be fired. It gives you a head start on hiring the new coach..

before about early December, and frequently longer.

You let a long term very well liked coach finish the year.

just my opinion

But I highly doubt he gets canned mid season. If he lays and egg against nutt it could get interesting.</p>

..remember when losing to Croom automatically cost a coach his job?

Well, Houston Nutt is the new Sly Croom in that regard.

I think losing would definitely mean he is getting fired but I don't think they would do it right away. I think it's highly likely he's fired already anyway.

keeps his job at seasons end ( because there is no way he will lose to the bears ).... he still has a fair amount of support, they just aren't as vocal as the fans who get hung up on talk radio ... and his supporters are the ones that can make the change ... all the screaming rednecks you keep hearing about don't make the decisions in that area... and UGA has enough fans that will continue to buy tickets, so from over here (locally) there is a slightly different perspective

..that is totally alien to the MSU mentality.

Unlike MSU, UGA does not abide mediocrity. UGA is a rich football powerhouse that can afford their instant gratification fix.

Second point: If UGA loses to a team that just got beat 30-7 by Vanderbilt, Richt might as well remain in Oxford after the game. Because everybody from the team trainer to the governor of Georgia will be waiting for Richt to arrive in Athens. And they will all be very pissed.

Since it's very hard to win on the road in the SEC, I give OM about a 30% chance of beating UGA. But if Richt loses to a team that just got the hell beat out of them by Vanderbilt, Richt is out come Sunday morning.

35 years as a phd with the school and he knows a lot of folks in very high places .... just passing along some info that may or may not be applicable .... people sometimes say one thing then do another, but from what I've heard it isn't the impending doom (as of yet) that folks have been speculating about

a ton of goodwill in the Athens community over the years. My parents live nearby, and from the way they talk, you'd think he walks on water. Bringing up on-the-field performance is always met with a counter of something nice he's done off the field.
I seriously doubt he has an infinite leash to keep losing, but I do think he could easily survive the year.
