is that it virtually assures us Mullen will be here at least two more years. To me that`s as big as what Newton can do on the field for us.

That cam doesn't assure Mullen stays two years. If and when the right offer comes along he will take it regardless of who is playing quarterback. That's just coaching and business imo.

Mullen can pile up the wins and either build a strong program at MSU or build his resume to land a job at a money school. He will need to stay at least 3 years to build a resume.

Bolting after two years will not be viewed very positively by potential future schools.

Cam Newton is not going to sign with us unless Mullen gives him his word that he will be here. I`m not talking about some ambiguous "coach speak" at a damn press conference , I`m talking about a man giving his word to a young man who is trusting him. If Mullen breaks his word to Newton it`ll hurt him in more ways than one down the road.

Where is this fear of Mullen leaving coming from? I have faith that our AD department will pay him what he is worth and is not going to force him to look elsewhere due to money. If he leaves it will be what I would call an elite school where recruiting and budgets are as good as it gets. There aren't that many places like that. Urban had to climb the ladder to get to the SEC while Mullen is starting off here.

I can't see Mullen turning down a florida or a Penn state for a player. I hope we keep him for a long time but I think if he wins seven games next year we had better watch out. I think we have a very good coach and I am not used to being in this position

Think about Greg Schiano at Rutgers or even Bobby Bowden at FSU (i know FSU is much easier to recruit to but my point still stands). I'm sure many of the fans of each of those schools thought "as soon as he starts winning, he's gone", but that didn't happen. Schiano could have bolted a few years back but elected to stay because he has made that program. Im sure Bobby Bowden had a few offers within his first few years as well.

You just never know. If Mullen starts winning here, and gets us back to where we were in the late 90's, he will be a god here. He could single handedly be the cause of a huge economic and aesthetic improvement in the city of Starkville, expansion of the stadium, more money to the school both academically and athletically...if we wins.

There are only 3 or 4 programs that put you a heartbeat away from a National Championship and they are one of them. You have lost your 17n' mind if you think a recruiting promise would hold him here.

Coach34, you are totally clueless. #%!% had practically no talent when Archie was there, except for Archie himself. He was the entire 17'n team. Vernon Studdard was the only other player to make an NFL roster, and that was just as a kick returner for a couple of years (NY Jets). But hell, don't listen to me -- since I only have a handful of posts then I MUST NOT KNOW JACK ****! IT IS ALL BASED ON YOUR NUMBER OF POSTS!!!!!!! RIGHT???

At what point did he say you were loaded with NFL talent when Archie was there?</p>

Makes a lot more sense than your 812th or the 3635th of the poster who originated this inane thread. You think that Newton signing with State would keep Mullen from taking a job at an elite football program that would pay him three times what we pay him?

He was dying for the Alabama job for over a decade, but they passed him over three times. He would have left FSU in a heartbeat though.
