Here is another fun stat! Nebraska has not had a winning conference record since 2016. Only Maryland and Rutgers have gone longer without a winning conference or at least .500 season in conference play. Maryland was .500 in conference in 2014 their first year in the Big Ten and Rutgers has never been .500 or above since joining the Big Ten.

That’s not surprising when you keep hiring .500 or below coaches.

Important context being that Saban never took over a team with a winning record the prior year.

Love Tom but Saban put an end to the discussion pretty definitively.

Yes, for Nebraska coaches.
I know the last several decades have been tough for us, but I never thought I'd have to defend Tom Osborne on a Husker board to Husker fans.

But, for starters, I'll refer you to the stat referenced by OP in the initial post. Was that just "Nebraska coaches"?

I do remember that time that ESPN signed the blockbuster showcase deal with the Big 8 at the height of.....err no that was Saban era SEC.

Meh. He took over a blue blood with very rich recruiting. Tom had to develop for three years to get players ready. I am a big Saban fan, but does he win that many games at NU? I suspect he doesn't stay long enough.

ESPN influence can't be overstated. They rigged the preseason rankings each year so that Bama was protected win, lose, or draw. Every ******* team in the conference was top 25 before a ball was snapped every damn year.

Nebraska had/has to fight tooth and nail against media, conferences, dark money, regulations, population, demographics, officiating, etc, ad nauseum. There isn't a single human being out there that could have accomplished what Osborne accomplished here. He was 10 times smarter than anyone else in the room.

Saban won 7 national championships, and a good number of those were over at halftime.

It's really not a debate.

Saban was gifted 7 national championships, and a good number of those were over at halftime thanks to rigged rankings, shadowy bag men, an exclusive recruiting showcase every single weekend on the world's largest sports network, all in the most talent rich areas in the country, and with a culture of compliance that would make the catholic church blush.

It's really not a debate.
Its really not.

Osborne would've won 15 in Tuscaloosa.

If Saban won a title at MSU I would agree. I think there are many better football minds throughout CFB history than Saban. They just didn’t have the privilege of coaching at arguably the most corrupt football program in history.

Just gonna put this here:

Good times.

Let's be serious here.

LSU was 3-8 the year before Saban.

Alabama was 6-7 before he took over, viewed very similarly to Nebraska in that they were a sleeping giant.

If something like the LP incident happened in Tuscaloosa, no one would've ever heard word one about it.

Every coach between Bryant and Saban was able to win 10 games in a season at some point in their tenure.

Osborne took over a better situation than Saban ever has.

Cry and piss about it all you want, the facts are the facts, and fans like you are why people make fun of us.
Osborne was the reason the situation in Lincoln was good based on the success he had as OC leading to a couple national championships. You really can't get out of your own way, can you?

And there is no "us".

Interesting discussion. I would have been curious how Coach O would have done at a place like Bama or LSU. Thankfully we never did

Osborne took over a team that was pretty freshly removed from back to back titles.

Alabama was nearly 2 decades away from their last championship when Saban won one for them. It's a true testament to Sabans greatness, he dominated on a level so unseen that you have forgotten they were ever not good, when they were in fact painfully average.

Oh so completely erasing Devaney?

So Osborne is the sole reason for Devaney's Natty's, but took 2 decades to win his own?

Put the bottle down, Frank

Ok you've convinced me....that you're more of an Alabama fan than a Nebraska fan. You certainly act like one.

Have a nice day.
