than get into the bi-weekly Stans pissing match that never goes anywhere. Plus, we don't have a bowl game to be concerned with so our options are limited.

I just don't see how we have any chance if Auburn can offer him the exact same things we can plus more apparent potential, more history, more national exposure, etc... This guy is the star of the Cam Newton Show, and I don't think his ego will allow him to pass up Auburn to go to M-State.

Then again, maybe I've just been trying to convince myself to prepare for the inevitable because I really want him as bad as anyone and don't feel like having a ****** Christmas/New Year.

I know we were the front runner at one time, but that was when we were the only serious SEC interest. Then Oklahoma comes in and **** gets serious. Fortunately, they can't guarantee him a starting qb slot, so they are out. Now, Auburn comes in and blows sunshine up his shorts. I know we have the Mullen connection, but other than that, what do we have that Auburn does not have?

I would think Kodi Burns would still be heavily utilized. And, they have the redshirt freshman Tyrik Rollison.

Should Newton go there, that's 3 talented dual-threat QBs/athletes that Newton will be competing against. Burns will probably be used as a receiver largely, but you never know what Malzahn would scheme up with those three on the roster. He could be splitting more time there than he's comfortable with.

Russell was heavily recruited as well, but isn't the same style of QB as Newton. I think if Newton goes to MSU, the only time Russell sees the field is if a) Newton turns out to be a bust (not likely) or b) mop-up duty.

he is no sure thing. Yea he has all of the tools and will probably be a great player but I watched him fumble on 3rd and 1 and then not get the first down in the final mins of the Juco Championship game. I know that's just one game but I just can't get those two plays out of my head when I think about his potential. Very Mississippi Stateish. I hope he comes don't get me wrong but man I can only talk about one recruit so much. Who we hire at DC will have as much, probably more, impact on our record next year. I he had committed after the Egg Bowl I think we would have a better recruiting class this year and we may have gotten Vincent Sanders.

I agree with this completely. I think Cam would be a great pick up for us but we better have a decent defense or it won't matter.

and his reactions, plus his 'vibes' with the current team, he is going to Auburn.....Ive seen how he reacted at the egg bowl, read about his interactions at OU.....if I were a betting guy, and I am, I put a good bit down on AU....

I want this guy as bad as Mullen does, but I don't see it happening

pretty tyler russel/chris relf is everyday. If Relf keeps his head on straight and improves his passing a little, I think that alone is good enough to get us into a bowl...nless armegeddon happens and Newton goes to Auburn, Mallette stays at Ark, Keenum stays at Houston, Georgia gets its **** together (I'm assuming the talent is still there) and LSU gets its **** together (same assumption), then we're looking at: @ Bama, @UF as likely losses; then Auburn, Ark, Georgia, @Houston, @LSU that will be close to toss ups; and then playing @UM also, even if we will have more talent next year. That does not get me warm and fuzzy.

In 2 weeks?

I don't believe for a second that Cam and his family need more time to discuss his future. I'd think with his new home starting in 2 weeks, they'd want the ball rolling by now.

Two words: Scotty Hopson. They're waiting for the last second to get all the best bids, probably even pocketing some losing bids.

is that the Sidney's never fully complied with the NCAA's request for bank records. It is the Sidney's choice that has kept him from qualifying. Not a witchhunt or anything anti-MSU. He was asked for the same documentation that they may ask of any other athlete. And he chose to hire a slick lawyer and try to subvert the system. How anyone would expect anything other than the current situation is beyond me. And comparisons to John Wall or the USC kids don't mean much. Wall gave them what they asked for. Punishment levied. Life goes on. And USC is about to get hammered by the NCAA.

but they have stopped saying that further documentation is required. Also, didn't Katz's last report on it basically say that the NCAA acknowledged that they had finally received everything they asked for. Isn't that why they were going to interview bank employees?

at an offensive player of this magnitude was 3 years ago...Ryan Perriloux , and you know what happened to him. All of this recruiting mess sometimes leads to nothing.

While I don't believe this to necessarily be anti-MSU (though I do think Sidney case would have been treated somewhat more leniently at a higher profile program), this most certainly IS a witchhunt in regards to the Sidney family. Its ridiculous for you to say that this same amount and type of documentation may be asked of any athlete when, as far as I've been able to find, the extent of documentation asked for in this case is thoroughly unprecedented for any athlete ever. And whether or not the NCAA got 100% of all the ludicrous list of documents asked for I know for a fact that they've got more financial documentation to review from the Sidneys than they would have for 99.99% of all student-athletes "certified" as amateurs every year. In fact if they required this kind of scrutiny in regards to every recruit whose family were living or buying things seemingly beyond their means, you would have these Renardo Sidney type cases all over the country. But the fact is you don't because normally the NCAA decides its not worth their time or effort to go to this extreme to prevent one guy the ability to play college sports

Not possible. He's too short to be a legitimate NFL prospect at QB.

I think that is why he is getting attention. I believe short QBs have to make up somewhere else....exceptional speed or exceptional decision making abilities combined with guts.

From the way everyone talks, I wouldn't have figured him going in the first round.

The more and more Cam's recruiting saga has gone along, I'd almost rather us have Russell play for four years and go with him. This is probably because I am sick of hearing and talking about Cam Newton (I am guilty of it too). Part of me feels it might be better in the long run to fully develop Russell and say to hell with Cam. Part of me also thinks that Cam is a great quick fix, but do we want a quick, short-handed fix? I do not know the answer but I guess we will have our answer soon enough. Also, is Pegues the only five-star we have had this decade?

you think Russell will be better, then why do you care where Newton goes. I would think if that were the case, you would want him to go to Auburn so we would have an advantage at quarterback when we play them.

It is very possible for him to believe that Russell is better than Newton but to also believe that Newton would be better than any other option Auburn has. Therefor, he won't be upset if Newton goes somewhere else, because we will be at our best anyway, except Auburn, because he doesn't want an opponent of ours to be at their best.

aGAIN, who cares?

You are trying entirely too hard to rationalize the thoughts of a Gene's Page expatriate who only wants "True Bulldogs" to sign with us, and our players are always better than anybody else's.
