Can anyone tell me how it is possible that Nutt makes twice what Mullen does?

Mullen is a brand new coach. No reason to pay a guy a lot that we don't have to pay a lot. If Mullen does well, he will make close to 2 million after next year (i.e. makes a bowl game).

Nutt took an 0-8 team the previous year to the Cotton Bowl. Croom was making 1.7 million and if he would have had a good 2008, I bet he would have jumped to 2 million.

Nutt has 127 career wins, Mullen has 5. He has 3 SEC West titles, he's been to 9 bowl games. Quit being stupid.

We need to get to the point to where we can keep our head coaching salary up to par with the rest of the league. Once we start getting to the postseason, we will start getting more money and stay competitive, but this year coming up is very critical. We need a bowl game, and we need to keep Mullen's salary in a position to make it a little harder to chase higher money. I think he can win the West at State. The talent we have coming in from last year and this year have more potential than the guys that graduated the past 2 years that Croom signed his first 2 years. We are upgrading our talent and depth, and we have some good young guys in places like the DL and WR and QB we usually don't have. </p>

I hate ole miss and for some reason I ha ve nothing but ole miss coworkers. They had a great time pointing that out to me in the paper this morning. It was hard for me to believe because I know our coach is far superior and I knew nutt made more, just didn't know it was double.

that we were paying a better coach less?

How are we losing in that scenario?

And what a guy makes is not what a school can pay.

but it's just like everyone else is saying- Mullen had no experience coming into this year. The last thing we need to do is get into a pissing contest with Ole Miss over coaching salaries when it is unwarranted.

That's how you end up paying for a guy like Croom three years after he gets fired.

Do you think Houston Nutt is a better coach than Urban Meyer? I sure as hell don't.

Great logic you have there, Cowpower.

I realize you probably just accidentally wandered over here from Swan Lake but that's a ******** statement. I hate Ole Miss as much as anyone but we have a guy who's entire head coaching career is 1 year with 5 wins 7 losses versus someone who has been coaching 17 years and has 128 wins and 78 losses. I have every reason to expect Mullen to be a good coach for us but so far he hasn't proven a whole lot of anything except that his offensive system is far superior to what Crooms was running, and that wasn't exactly hard to do.

Nutt makes twice as much as Mullen because a) he has taken Ole Miss to bowl games and b) we have a smart AD. We upgraded our head coaching situation when we hired Mullen and paid him a lot less than Croom was making - that's called good business. We also left ourselves plenty of room to give him raises when he does well. I guess you'd rather us just give him a raise so he isn't making half as much as Nutt. It's just too bad you aren't AD.
