Historically, about the time we have started to get some national recognition and respect is when we poop the bed. We stand on the precipice now. Admittedly, the line against Mizzou is pretty absurd. They are a solid defensive team, coming in 22nd nationally. Nevertheless, the perception is that we should beat them and apparently beat them handily.

We've far exceeded expectations in our last 3 games. Now we have to live up to expectations and this is where we've typically struggled.

Each week, I've felt like the challenge ratcheted up. Going to OU seemed tough given their strong defense and our offense that was still feeling its way at the time (and it was a mighty struggle offensively). Things got a bit tougher with A&M coming to town as they presented challenges on a number of different fronts. The pressure increased even more traveling to Vandy for a classic letdown game but a game we should win. To Beamer's credit, the team was prepared for each challenge.

Now we have the challenge of being in the spotlight and proving we're as good as the national media are now saying we are. Some teams do best when they are fighting for respect but don't perform as well once they get it. The makeup of this team seems solid, with guys like Debo keeping the D grounded.

Seems like shades of the 2022 Missouri game all over again. Newly ranked, favored to win, afternoon kick on SEC Network...

Yep. Eerily similar. That was a 4 pm game. This game is 4:15. We were given a 70.7% chance of winning in '22. This year it's 69.6%.

One thing should be different this year: the crowd should be much more lively. We entered that '22 game on a 4-game win streak but those wins were over Charlotte, SC State, UK missing their starting QB and a bad A&M team (in a game we made more interesting than it should have been), so I think there was some sense we weren't as good as our record indicated. The crowd started the game dead as a doornail and the team's performance did nothing to perk them up.

WB will be hopping this time around.

The weather wasn't great either. Overcast, chilly, hint of rain. Just an awful game all around. Ironically that's the last Carolina game I've been to, and now I'll be at the game again on Saturday. Hopefully I'm not the common denominator.

After hearing Beamer's full comments on pollsters after the Vandy game, we better back it up on the field.

Josh Pate said on episode 578 of his college football broadcast on November 12, “The AP ranked South Carolina. I didn’t realize this. No, no, Shane Beamer, if he’s out there listening, you need to do the right thing. You need to reject this. You need to decline the AP’s invitation to be ranked. I have heard you. I have listened to Shane Beamer accurately call these people out for being asleep at the wheel over the past couple of weeks.
It seems that Josh was not genuinely shocked because, before this AP poll-raking announcement, he was aware of the team’s potential and skill. He explained this in his podcast, saying, “We at the JP pole properly and appropriately had South Carolina power rated well inside the top 25, and now these people want to show up once.”

This is a totally different and all around better team than the '22 version. I think our defense is going to create a lot of problems for Missouri and potentially manhandle them up front. Just need another efficient game from the offense and we'll be in pretty good shape IMO.
