The way the NCAA is with waivers, I'm pretty sure having a hangnail would qualify you for a waiver. There essentially are no transfer rules. You can transfer one time and play immediately the next season. If you want to play immediately the second time you transfer, you need a waiver. Which is not that hard to obtain anymore.
There are two transfer portal windows during the year. The first is from the first week of December until about mid-January. The second one is a two-week period from the first of May to mid-May. Those are the only times players can enter the portal during the year. How many times is a player allowed to transfer? Can they hit the portal year after year, or do they have to sit out a year after the first transfer? Could a player join another team mid-season, or are there certain windows when transfers are allowed?
So could a player transfer to a new team in December and participate in their bowl game? There are two transfer portal windows during the year. I don't think that's allowed. So could a player transfer to a new team in December and participate in their bowl game?
its not, you have to first enroll into the upcoming academic semester before playingI don't think that's allowed.
They have to enter their name in that time period. They can transfer whenever. Just need to enroll in the start of the next semester before playing.Question? Do they actually have to transfer during those time periods, or can they sign a short time later?
Thanks for the info, gents. I understand (I think) the rationale for allowing transfers. (I attended JC and then another college before I ended up at MSU.) But it seems overall detrimental to college athletics to basically create free agency.
