Can we land Arnett this time around?

Arnett was at the top of Beamer's list for DC 3 years ago, but turned down the gig to stay in Starkville.

I'm certain he's already been inundated with interest from other programs, some of which will be more high profile than us. LSU, SoCal and Washington have been floated as possibilities.

The big question: are we serious enough to make him a competitive financial offer?

I would say the odds are not in our favor. Beamer has pretty much hired under-the-radar guys, so going with a known entity and desirable commodity in Arnett would be out of step for him. I also seriously doubt we'd willing to pony up the dough to compete against the likes of LSU and SoCal, if they are indeed interested.

The only way we get him is for Beamer to put on the recruiting hat and go after him.
Will he? I don't know.
Can we compete with other high-profile suitors? Probably not.

I'd love to have him, but he may be a West Coast guy based on track record. Of course, Mississippi St is East of the Mighty Missisip so who knows? Maybe he will continue his Eastern progression.

That would be savage 🔥....no way Beamer does it.
haha, yeah, sadly not.

This is how I envision it going down:

"Hi Zach, yeah, Shane here" :knock knock: "Let me put you on hold, I've got someone at my door....come in. Hey, Clayton, sorry to have to do this, but we're gonna have to let you go. We just have an opportunity to upgrade the position and I have to do what I think is best for the team. Be more than happy to put some feelers out for you for another job." :White leaves: "Hey, Zach, I'm back. So, when can you start?"

I'm not sure Will Arnett would be a good fit for our DC position. Would certainly be an outside the box hire!!!

When is the last time we went out and snagged a desirable coach? Spurrier, obviously. Slim pickin's aside form that. We've had some good assistants, but not sure when the last time is that we went out and hired the assistant coach that other schools wanted.

Beamer pretty much confirmed today that if White is let go, it ain't going to be right after the year. Talked today about how stupid it is to fire guys early b/c of the early signing period and the portal window.

And that's why we'll end up with Tommy DooDoo from West Bumbletech.

Man up. Hire Arnett and Pittman and we could be onto something.

I don't know if he either doesn't yet have the cachet to go out and hire proven entities for assistants or if he doesn't think he needs proven entities to build a good staff. Or maybe we're just too cheap.
It ain't being cheap. There are 14 OCs in the country that are making $1M and we got one of them. White makes $1.1M, which is top 15 nationally. OM is getting hosed. They can't stop anybody and they're paying Golding over $2M/yr.

I don't know what it is, but he needs to figure it out. So far so good on Logg. But I feel like you're better off landing a big name on D than O. All I know is Arnett is on the market, and DJ Durkin is very likely to be. If if we don't land those, it will likely mean guys we have a better shot at will be available.

I'm not sure if he'd be interested. He likely will have his pick of schools. I saw one article mention him on a list of potential DCs for Lincoln Riley at the other USC.

Seems like a smart guy. Turned down Oregon & Texas to stay with the Pirate at MSU. Knew jumping around probably wasn't good for his career.
