Love me some Stone Cold Jones. He's holding out for a major contract. It's probably going to last several more games.

I haven't been following this. Is he getting bad advice from some asshat agent or has he got solid representation?
He’s considered the 2nd best DL in the league and he’s paid around 10th highest. He’s just demanding to be paid what he’s worth.

Yep. And I could be misunderstanding contract mechanics in NFL so call me out. But if he's sitting out and gives up say 3-5M of his salary missing a few games and he inks a new deal with $50M+ guaranteed(Jeff Simmons just got $48 or so) then he just spent 3-5 to nab 50 without the risk of career ending injury. Seems like a smart deal to me unless there's some kind of insurance market out there that's cheaper than his forgone salary.

What am I missing?

That’s all correct, but he and his agent(s) have also been trying to get him an extension all offseason, to no avail. This hold out didn’t come out of left field. Its a contract year for him, and he doesn’t want the franchise tag in 2024 for his age 30 season, and then to get shoved out the door and left to sign a lowball deal elsewhere for his age 31 season and beyond.

Oh yeah forgot about franchise tag. Legit fear - you'd rather sign a long term deal with a 2 starting your age. I get that.

As I type this Detroit takes the lead running it right up the gut from 10 yards. Tick tock, Chiefs office.

So while sitting out he attends the game with his agents? Interesting

I’m 38 and when I logged onto Hulu to watch this game I was notified that my subscription was increasing from 69.99 per month to 76.99 per month. I was 37 when I signed up for this.

ETA: it’s a contract year for me too.

Truth is, Detroit won it, but only scored 14 points on offense, even with Chris sitting.

But they damn sure ran through the middle of KC's line when putting the game away.

Tirico already given the loss an asterisk due to Jones and Kelce being out. Mahomes is not allowed to lose based off his own crappy game and receivers that can’t catch a cold.

Right, I was mostly referencing those last two Detroit drives.

See, Hulu decided they should be paid like the top streaming service. They didn't like the contract of the 9th or 10th best seevice.

He's under contract and should be playing. I have no sympathy for him.
I just do not understand this way of thinking, no offense. The man is being underpaid at his job based on other d lineman in the league. How many of you would work a job that has the potential to destroy your body for less than what you should be getting paid? Plus he has a limited window in which to make money. If the recent conference shake ups and mega contracts in the NFL have taught us anything it is that football is all about money now. So go get that paper Chris.

He's already said he won't hold out past week 8 so as long as Chiefs don't tank....and that wasn't a good start he's lost a little leverage. Now, if they lose a couple more early they'll be paying him pretty quickly. When they do agree on a deal they'll write most of that lost money into it except maybe the performance incentives.

As far as him being underpaid the best player on that team is under paid and he's playing.

I get that he deserves more, he has probably proven he does. BUT, it sounds like he should have thought about that BEFORE HE AGREED to the length of contract he SIGNED.
