SVN looks very aggressive on top, looking to score in a variety of ways. Looks like he MFd out just to be cautiousVan Ness majors Jeffrey Boyd 10-2 of WVU (former PA AAA state champ). Rode him for over 3 minutes.
Best was stronger than Facundo, but Alex gonna be just fine…Facundo 165 in the quarters quick a bit underpowered against Best of Maryland
1-1 into SV picked him up, couldn't shake and dump, lots of blood time outs in match. Head underneath too much. No score.
Out in 21 seconds. Lost by 13 seconds, Seemed confused by new rules.
Evans is 133, and we MAY need him there for a month. Also, we need to temper the enthusiasm. First win 3-2 was over a guy who was 2-19 in his career, his win in semis was over a guy who was something like 1-10 last year.Evans 3-0 at 133 in the finals Can he drop to 125????
Facundo 4-1 at 165
Borden 5-1 at 165
Cochran 4-1 at 197
Van Ness 2-0 at 149 (ended day w/ 2 MFs, not losses)
Steen 0-2 at 125 // DNP
Wang 1-2 at 141 // DNP
Kelly 1-2 at 174 // DNP
Got pretty physical at end. Left and right clubs from both. I think Lawrence threw the first club, no back down from young kidFacundo 5-2 over Lawrence.
Expectations/Hopes were pretty high for Teske, and he wasn't ready on day one either. Now look at the kid. Good to know that it's still very early for Steen and he may take some lumps if he's called into action. And even if he does, shouldn't be any rush to judgment.Steen goes down. I'm sure it will cause a meltdown with some on the other board, but I've been posting for a month that he needs to make a lot of progress to be our most viable option this year. Not surprised by this.
Which is to be expected. There's only a few kids anywhere that are ready to go out of the box. Not fair to have expectations like he is a top 10 kid. Jefe made a good comparison the other day that is optimistic - Conaway - and if he can follow that arc I'm sure all but a few will be happy. That's a tall order for 99.5% of wrestlers.
Van Ness and Facundo are different level recruits and they are going to have some hiccups. Expectations can be out of hand.
Teammates didn't wrestle. Poor Borden with 3 straight no-contests on the backside.Facundo 20-9 MD over Brinsky, will face teammate Borden for 5th.
Adding onto this about Evans: he's a freshman. His best finish in PA was AA 4th, and he was not a national-level recruit. (Only presented as factual. I was very happy that Cael landed him and said so at the time.)Evans is 133, and we MAY need him there for a month. Also, we need to temper the enthusiasm. First win 3-2 was over a guy who was 2-19 in his career, his win in semis was over a guy who was something like 1-10 last year.
We have a couple of veteran options at 125 to hold down the fort until second semester. With some good wins in their career. And I wouldn't count out Shunk who is improved.
Or it wouldn't surprise me if they were our 125 and 133 for November. No inside info but interesting that none were at Clarion.
Meh. When they pulled him ahead of quarters, the next match worth wrestling would've been in the finals.May be nothing, but seeing SVN take a couple medical forfeits doesn't thrill me.
The MD loss to Brown looked less concerning the more matches Brown wrestled. After losing in the first round to the eventual champion (Bailey), Brown won by fall - major (Steen) - major - major (Luke Werner) - dec. He didn't wrestle in his last match.Steen lost 14-4 to Braxton Brown (MD), a top 30-ish recruit this year -- which means he was considered more or less equivalent to Steen (or maybe a little ahead) coming out of HS. Losing this match isn't terrible, but losing by 10 pts indicates Steen has a lot of work to do.
Bailey (if not shirting) would be Lehigh's 3rd stringer this year behind Lane and Seymour. I'd agree about the Werner match, except Werner lost to Fischer, so it's kinda hard to contextualize this right now.The MD loss to Brown looked less concerning the more matches Brown wrestled. The MD over Werner in particular caught my attention.
I watched his matches, and I watched him before and after. Shayne nor his father ever appeared to be concerned about anything physical before, during, or after any matches.May be nothing, but seeing SVN take a couple medical forfeits doesn't thrill me.
My guess too, especially if Rod was the driver and wanted to get all the way home to north Jersey that night -- over 5 hrs from Clarion.I watched his matches, and I watched him before and after. My guess is, they wanted to hit the road. Who knows, he could have an 8:00am class today. I do not think he withdrew over a physical ailment.
