Is anyone hearing about possibilities of CW leaving for a head coaching job anywhere? I heard a rumor about ECU but I've also heard the same rumor about Garrett Riley going there. I figured someone here would be more in the know than I am.

Lurker is spot on. In my opinion, White is the best coach on this staff. I have been a fan of our DC from the get-go. Losing him would be a major loss.Is anyone hearing about possibilities of CW leaving for a head coaching job anywhere? He did a good enough job in 2021 or 2 (forget which year) to have been nominated for the Broyles Award as the best assistant coach in the nation. And, by the way, in his prior job as DC before coming to USC, he produced Top 50 defenses.Up to this year we wouldn't have cared if he did.
And with the talent he loses after this year, that sentiment may very-well return! This year has been a perfect storm of sorts for a DC. We'll see what kind of coach he is next season. Does our D continue to be good, or does it fall off a cliff?Up to this year we wouldn't have cared if he did.
If he's playing the odds, odds are he'll fail as a head coach. Almost all do and end up going back down to be a coordinator.
I miss the days when a great coordinator was content being a great coordinator. A master of his craft. It seems these days any competent coordinator gets a crack at head coaching and few can resist the draw.
White is very good at what he does.

There's a reason why Will Muschamp gave up his DC gig at UGA to become an analyst there. From a financial standpoint, if you have a fan base that insists on 4-5 years minimum, then a single failed head coaching gig can set you up for life.
It's certainly true. The allure, obviously, is the pay day. From a financial standpoint, if you have a fan base that insists on 4-5 years minimum, then a single failed head coaching gig can set you up for life.
Pretty much any HC job will pay him at least twice that for a minimum of 4 or 5 years no matter how terrible he might end up being. After that, he knows he will be set for life as far as being able to get really good asst. jobs if he wants them. It's certainly true. The allure, obviously, is the pay day.
That said, White is currently making $1.2 million/year. With even just what he's earned here, if he's been semi-smart with his money he should be set for life financially.
