To some degree, Clowney was probably a victim of his hype. He was hailed as possibly the best high school recruit ever. Some were saying he was NFL-ready straight out of high school. That hype continued after his monster 2012 season, culminating with "the hit" leading into 2013. Unfortunately, 2013 was a major disappointment, with only 3 sacks on the year. Of course, he was double-teamed almost every play. If his 2012 could have approximated his 2012 season, it would probably look a lot different. As it is, he had a really good 2011 for a true freshman. A truly great 2012. A pedestrian 2013 (as far as stats go). His stats suffered greatly in 2013 b/c of the attention he got from opposing OL, but it opened things up for Kelcy Quarles, who went from 3.5 sacks in 2012 to 9.5 sacks in 2013.
