Even if we win the rest of our pre-SEC games, we could very well lose in Oxford, starting the whole thing over again. Add to that the "SEC is down" perception/reality and it's going to be tough. We blew it this year, right out of the gate.

keep a #14 ranking after losing by 20 to USC. Didn't USC lose half their team due to the latest scandals? I wouldn't be suprised if they are starting 1-2 walk-ons.

You guys are worried too much about polls. Ole Miss has been ranked both of the past two seasons and in 2008 they will fall apart when the SEC starts and we will win. That Richmond lost will not hurt us as bad as we thought and the Houston win will help. I am not worried at all.

I do agree that they are arbitrary and that teams are often ranked too high or too low. But being ranked or not is goijng to have a lot to do with our dance seeding or even whether we get an invite.

It doesn't necessarily have a lot to do with what happens on the court, but I don't want the team that gets screwed to be ours.

is that Ole Miss hasn't beaten anyone. I don't mean that as a flame. Also, they had to come back late and get lucky versus USM and UTEP. They have climbed up the polls after those wins. MSU was preseason 18, gets beat by Rider and falls to like 42. They have won 6 straight games, really beating no one except a good road W vs. Houston, and they haven't moved at all. Rankings don't mean much, but it's like people have just written us off or have once again gotten us confused with Mississippi.

I know they have 2 losses to ranked opponents, but they have a loss at home to Minnesota, who has lost to Portland. I've always hated Butler, because I always thought they and Gonzaga were way overrated because they played in weak conferences. Now I do have to give those 2 teams credit for playing these highly ranked teams, but I guess thats why they get the love fest from the media.

Gonzaga continually beats good teams and it wasn't too many years ago when that overrated Butler team beat the great Michael Ignerski-led group of Bowers, Zimmerman, Austin, Vincent and Harper.

I don't think we're a Top 15 team, but we have beaten somebody. K-State is obviously Top 20 right now, and they are fighting for that 3rd best spot in the Big 12 behind KU and Texas. They've beaten teams like Dayton, UNLV, and Bama. Our only loss is to Nova. And that UTEP win is going to look like a decent win. UTEP did go into a very similar situation with Oklahoma tonight, and they beat them without much difficulty.

Again, I don't think we're Top 25, but we've got a couple decent wins. It's not like we've only beaten cupcakes.

However, you have shown a tendency to swoon during the SEC schedule (after a fast pre-SEC start, during the AK regime). So, I'll reserve judgement until after the first 1/2 of the SEC season (but Rebels look pretty good so far).

I picked up Ncaa BB 2010 they have this update thing they do every week kinda like madden online...anyway State is the second worst team in the SEC. I dont get it, BTW the game has alot of flaws dont pick it up unless your die hard college hoops fan. Im 5-8 overall and 4 of my wins are with UK, I cant justify playing a guy that picked Duke with State sry.

You mean 2007-08?

It happened one season. Not saying it can't happen again, but we have been 8-8, 7-9 teams in the SEC in AK's 3 seasons.

In 06-07, we went 11-3 pre-SEC with a loss to Saint Louis and our best win probably against Illinois-Chicago. We went 8-8 and shared the West with you, with an NIT berth. We didn't exactly start strong, and even after OOC play, no one expected us to be in the mix in the SEC West, and we weren't expected to finish 8-8, even after OOC play.

07-08 was our 13-0 pre-SEC start that ended with a 7-9 SEC record and an NIT bid. That's the year you are talking about.

Last year, 08-09, we were 9-5 pre-SEC in the year of the knee injury. We lost badly to teams like USM and New Mexico. We were lucky to go 7-9 in SEC play. In fact, most of us were going into SEC play expecting 3 or 4 SEC wins.

So, in AK's 3 years, once have we started fast and stumbled to the finish. In 2 of the 3 years, we finished better in SEC play than people expected we would, even after OOC play was finished.

Outside of K-State you have only beaten cupcakes. The West Virginia game will be very telling.

Outside of K-State, UM's best RPI win was 183rd Arkansas State (USM does not even really count yet)
