Highlights from last year (prediction-wise)-

1. LSU won the SEC and BCS as predicted\
2. Georgia also finished 1st in the East, but lost the tiebreaker
3. Mississippi went 0-8 as predicted (booo to you Rebel posters for doubting)
4. Laughing about the great fark with Hester as I won big money on the opening game
5. State's offense was even worse than I predicted it would be

Lowlights (prediction-wise)-

1. State far exceeded predictions
2. SC fell on their face after starting 6-1
3. Tenn exceeded expectations and didnt fire Phat Phil

Here we go for 2008:

West:

1. LSU- Les Miles continues to give everyone a big 17 off as the Tigers come off their NC. The Tigers have QB issues, but have an outstanding OL and the SEC's best RB's. They also have a good group of WR's to make their offense more than formidable. Defensively, they have the SEC's best DL and good players at LB. They are talented but inexperienced in the secondary. The Tigers win the West again, with their losses coming at home to Georgia and on the road at Fla. 6-2

2. Auburn- talented team with lots of returning starters. QB issues abound here, just like every other team in the SEC West. Like LSU, they have a good backfield and a solid OL, but are suspect at WR. The spread offense helps them offensively, but not enough to play LSU. Auburn has one of the SEC's best defenses, but cant get it done losing to LSU and Georgia at home. The Tigers finish 6-2.

3. Bammer- Saban has a new OC in T-Town. And he has some talent to work with. They have a ***** for a QB, but he does put up decent numbers. Like many SEC teams this year, they have a solid OL and a good backfield. WR's are pretty good and their offense helps overcome a defense that still hasnt arrived. Saban needs one more recruiting year to overcome Shula on D. Bame goes 4-4 with losses to Georgia, Tenn, LSU, and Auburn

4. Mississippi- Car salesman Houston Nutt arrives in Mississippi with a solid group and decent talent. He looks like Bobby Bowden to these guys after following Orger-moron as head coach. He has a talented but unproven QB to go with all 3 returning WR's. They have some dropoff at the RB position, but their OL overcomes this with 4 of the 5 starters returning. Expect to see their true freshman at RB alot by mid-season. Defensively, they will be better with 8 starters returning. This group will determine exactly how high they finish. Rebs go 3-5 with wins over Vandy, UPig, and State and return to a bowl.

5. State- The Bulldogs have a returning QB and decent RB's, but the Bulldogs have only 2 returning starters on the OL, the worst WR's and the worst offensive system in the SEC. This bunch couldnt even score in its Spring Game. Defensively, the Bulldogs will be ok on the DL, but have a good group of LB's and maybe the 9th or 10th best secondary in the nation. However, Their new DC is just two years removed from being a WR's coach and losing EJ to SC will show some damage. The Bulldogs are unable to score enough to win big games and limp to a 2-6 record with wins over Vandy and Kentucky

6. UPig- Bobby Petrino finds an unwelcome return to the SEC. His drastic change from predominantly running to a pro-style passing attack will take time in Pigland. They lost alot of starters on both sides of the ball and struggle to a 1-7 SEC record, with the only win over State (whom they own). Their home games of Bama early, Fla, a revenge game against Mississippi, and LSU do them no favors.

EAST

1. Florida- The gators are loaded on offense. They have the Heisman winner and speed to burn. This group wont have any problems scoring points. Defensively, they arent near as good but have 7 starters returning and lots of guys with experience. The schedule is their biggest friend in 2008. they get LSU and SC in the Swamp, and Georgia the week after they play LSU- which leads to death for most teams. The Gators go 7-1 and win the SEC East with their only loss coming to Tenn.

2. SC- Spurrier is slowly getting the Cocks where they need to be. They have possibly the conferences best WR and best TE. Their OL struggled at times, but has 4 starters returning and lots of experience. The QB and OL have to perform better in 08, having the weapons they have makes that easier. Defensively, the Cocks could have the conferences best, and even upgraded their DC for 2008. They have the best group of LB's and Secondary in the SEC. The DL has to shore it up to get them where they want to go. The Cocks go 6-2 due to being out-physicalled by LSU and then lose on the road at Fla.

3. Georgia- the Dawgs are LSU of 2006- great team with too much schedule. They are the SEC's best, but no college team in the nation could get thru what they have to face. Offensively they are good at QB and RB. The OL returns 3 starters, but is still young with 3 freshmens as back-ups. They have decent WR's, but nobody would ever call this bunch great. Defensively, they will be hell. 9 starters return and will make every game physical. No team can overcome playing at SC, at Arizona St, at LSU, and at Auburn, plus playing Fla in Jacksonville. Georgia goes 6-2 with losses at SC and to Fla. They are able to win in BR, catching LSU after a murderous road schedule at Fla and at SC.

4. Tennessee- Phat Phil finishes 4th after playing in Atlanta last year. New QB, good RB's, good OL, and solid WR's make them pretty good on offense. Defensively, they only return 3 of the front 7 and are still young in the secondary, starting 2 Soph's. This club isnt bad, but cant win big road games at Auburn, Georgia, or SC. Tenn goes 5-3

5. Kentucky- Kentucky has a new QB, and lots of questions on Offense. They have a decent OL and decent RB's, but WR's and QB remain very questionable. Defensively they will be better, and hopefully they will depend on it more and run the ball to shorten games. Kentucky regresses to go 2-6 in 2008 with wins over UPig and Vandy. Nobody did them a favor with home games vs SC, Georgia, and Fla that they just cant win

6. Vandy- Vandy's should be year was 2007. They have few returning starters and missed out on too many chances last year. 0-8 for Johnson in 2008 and the unemployment line for him and his staff.

SEC championship game- Fla vs LSU
SEC Champion- LSU wins the revenge match
BCS- LSU and Georgia
Coach of the Year- Steve Spurrier
Surprise team- SC and Mississippi
SEC Flop- Miss State
8 bowl teams- Vandy, Kentucky, State, and UPig miss out
Interesting factoid- "Year of the Offensive lineman in the SEC"- 7 of 12 SEC teams return 4 OL starters, 3 more have 3 returning

BCS Title game- Oklahoma vs USC (LSU knocks Fla out of title game in the SEC Championship)

so state finishes a spot worse than they did last year and we're the SEC flop?

UGA finishes 3rd after a promising end of season last year and they make it to the bcs placing 3rd in the division?

also, Vandy's "should be" year was 06 with Cutler.

other than that, UGA/USC is about the only thing I disagree with placement wise.

Flop? Yeah, the reigning SEC COY goes 5-7
Geo gets in over SC due to SOS
Vandy had 17 starters returning last year and couldnt get it done, it will be ugly this year

it was only a lowlight prediction-wise, as in being wrong. Personally, it was a great thing. We are strictly talking predictions here

most likely not remember nor care about by the time the season starts. Georgia wins the SEC and vies for the NC (may get screwed by BCS though). Coach34 will choke on SC's jock about week 5 or 6. Seriously, man, what is your fascination with them? You've predicted greatness for them every year Spurrier has been there and every year you get the same results - mediocrity. And....
Their new DC is just two years removed from being a WR's coach
Only someone as dumb as you would overlook the majority of his 20-something year career he has spent coaching the defensive side of the ball to concentrate on the 4 years he spent coaching on the offensive side, so my prediction is you will be proven wrong on this and our new DC will be just fine as our defense carries us to about 5 wins (one thing we agree on).

Everything I have read has them in the top 5 in the country with some mags having them #1. I also don't think UM will be that much better in Nutts first year. Nutt has ALWAYS ran an offense similar to MSU in that the QB manages the game but the offense goes through the RB. I would be completely surprised to see Jevan sling the ball 40 times a game. Their RB aren't proven at all but they do have a good line.

MSU completely hinges on the QB and receivers actually having a passing game. Oline is experienced with some depth. RBs are top half in the league if not higher. Of course if Woody calls plays like normal it will not matter who is on Offense since most play calling is like Tecmo Bowl. MSU Defense might be one of the best in conference if Cheese knows what he is doing. Secondary should allow more blitzs which could lead to alot of turnovers with this secondary.

I disagree on South Carolina. I just dont see it and he has yet to prove he can win in the division with the other giants in the east.

UGA, which is ranked number one in several publications and will more than likely be no worse than third nationally in the first AP poll, finishes third in the East, but MSU goes from fourth to fifth in the West and they're the flop of the SEC. You really are a dumbass.

Ole Miss has "some dropoff" at running back? "Some" equals going from a 1000 yard rusher to two guys with three carries in college lifetime. That's only "some dropoff"? What was the change from Manning to Spurlock, a "slight" difference?

Otherwise, that's about how I see things too. Desoto County is right, you're man-love for Spurrier is way overboard. He's not the same coach who won all those games at Florida and he hasn't been for nearly a decade now. Carolina will be good, but no better than 3rd in the East (and they'll have to fight UT for that).

Georgia will go 10-2- no way you can call that a flop. They have too much schedule, ask LSU from 2006. I think SC beats them in Columbia in a defensive war, and then there is no way they can beat LSU and Fla back to back. State goes from having the COY to falling back 3 games with an easier schedule= flop.

Mississippi has some talent at RB, but the main thing is they are going to have a very good O-line. They will be able to run the football no matter who carries it. I dont like them either, but be objective. Hell, I was objective last year when I said they'd go 0-8. I knew they would be terrible.

I'd wait to see how things play out before calling anyone a dumbass. You may be eating more than pizza come November

for the baseless South Carolina hype to begin. Didn't Chris Smelley throw 5 picks in the first half of the spring game?

You predict State to go 2-6 in the SEC, and I assume 5-7 overall. But you will be disappointed if State wins fewer than 8 games. Is that correct?

dick. Go get a degree from somewhere else and take your self-loathing with you. Why do you continue to say you support MSU when you obviously hate it so much?

3, they are foolish to base that prediction on talent alone and not look at that schedule. They will not play for a nat'l title w/ OSU-USC winner, Oklahoma and a host of other teams having a much easier road to the title. USC was rated about #6 last year until they suffered a ton of injuries on a very good defense to include their very best player Jasper Brinkley. They return 10 on D and will be very tough. Smelly is no longer their starter and the hippy returns in early August from his sabatical. I can't understand people who think Ark will be good and SC won't given their situations. Quite frankly, there is nothing inherently wrong w/ those predictions other than he has MSU low, which pisses most of you off. I can't see how Croom will not win six next year though.

Last year, LSU had Flynn, Hester, Dorsey- great leadership that is gone to the NFL. Plus, a new defensive coordinator, which I don't think will be much of a difference. But there are just too many questions- especially at the QB position. The defense will always be talented, but has only 5 returning starters. Last year as NC, LSU went 6-2 in the SEC, no way they do that again. LSU will have 3 SEC losses at the end of the year. The other tigers in the leauge (AU) will be playing UGA in the championship game.

Going from BJGE to Cordera Eason and Enrique Davis = Manning to Spurlock? We should actually have a better running game this year than last.

He wasn't equating Manning -> Spurlock to BJGE -> "Two guys that have three carries in a college lifetime"... He was using it to make a point.

I don't keep up with OM football at all, so could you explain this one.

I am convinced that you just like to get the entire Sixpack board mad at you for your own sick pleasure. There is no way you are this big of an idiot/*******. I respect your opinions just like I respect everyone's opinion, but saying that State exceeding your expectations is a lowlight is just shameful. Don't give me that crap about it was just prediction-wise, we all know how you really feel. If you hate Mississippi State so much and take so much joy when things go bad why don't you just find another school to support? Seriously man, you have issues.

No where did HD6 compare your running backs for this year to Spurlock. He was using the change from Manning to Spurlock as a baseline comparison point to illustrate the difference in going from a proven productive commodity (experienced 1000 yd rusher) to an unknown & unproven commodity (Eason & Davis). You do remember the hype surrounding Spurlock, don't you? At this point, that is all Davis & Eason are as well. They may prove to be all SEC or even all AA, but right now they are nothing but star rankings and potential.

I said we would have a better running game than last year. "Running game" is not a term exclusive to Ole miss football or anything. That's about as simply as this can be stated. The guys that run with the football will run further than the guys that ran with the football last year.

I realize we're talking about unproven commodities, and I'm not going to say that we're going to be a lot better at running this year. However, BJGE wasn't a world beater. The guy was a very good between the tackles RB, but he was a step slow compared to the backs we'll have this year. Also, he was working out of an offense that gave him very little help. If there is one thing Nutt has proven to be good at doing, it's his ability to get a ground game going. Based solely on the speed of our backs this year, and Nutt, I think we'll be able to run the ball at least as well as we did last year.

b/c they have uncertainty at quarterback and they return 10 off the 12th ranked run defense in the conference?

Nothing has impressed me about the Spurrier era at SC and Im blown away that they are getting worse each year.

Hell, we return a ton on D and have experience at QB and won more games than they did last year. Are we going 6-2?

My life is now complete. Nostradumbass hath spoken. To hell with the Preseason Prognosticators threads, I'm lumping all my ******** into one convenient thread, so as soon as something happens that's even remotely close to what I've predicted, I can go back 100 pages and bump this **** to the top, just to let all you idiots who thought Crooms would have the #1 offense in the nation know how awesome I am.

Pathetic.

I'm just saying SC will be better than many predicted (probably not second in the east though). They seem to be the forgotten team this year (them and UT).

There's no way State finishes the season under 7-5... We open the season with two juco's from LA(I applaud the athletic dept's brilliant decision to schedule some cupcakes instead of the favored national champion) then lose closer than expected to auburn, beat Tech in Atl, loose bad to LSU in Baton Rouge, beat Vandy, get destroyed by UT, win homecoming against Middle Tenn, beat Kentucky and Arkansas in Starkville, lose to Bama and beat Ole Miss in Oxford. Then the powers that be will probably reward us with an invite to the Indy Bowl or may be the Peach Bowl at 8-4. We have 4 can't lose games on our schedule and our team is on the rise after finally making a bowl last year. As long as our players stay out of trouble we should be bowling again.

This is the same talk I got last when people like you were saying they couldnt be any good on offense after losing Russell and two 1st round WR's to the NFL. Next thing you know, they win a NC. LSU has the best DL in the SEC and maybe the best OL. They have the best RB's and will run the football and control football games to take pressure off the QB's. To go with that, they have more than adequate WR's in Byrd, LaFell, and a very good TE in Dickson.

Defensively, their DL will help control games and let their younger guys make plays. Dont forget, Auburn has to play them the week after us and they are breaking in 2 new QB's as well. We'll see what happens

"Everything I have read has them in the top 5 in the country with some mags having them #1"

issues. 9 of their 10 OL on the 2-deep are Soph's or Freshmen's. That will hurt them in crucial road games. Plus, they are middle of the pack in the SEC at WR. Those things, when combined with their schedule, most assuredly mean they wont win the East
